An integrated approach to

e've all been living with the
cloud for many years now in
one form or another. But there's a
very big difference between simply
using cloud storage or even some
software-as-a-service offers
than
the real-time processing and app
use that
is
now moving across
industries. And our sector is no
different. But as this use grows there
are, inevitably, frustrations emerging
about incompatibility between cloud
services and confusing interfaces.
This
is
InBroadcast last month, it seems
like a long time ago that
LiveU
was known simply as the cellular

In many ways these partnerships

LU-Smart streaming App
Sky Germany has been at the
professional
5G
deployment, leveraging LiveU
technology
for
their
first

broadcast back in 2020. To take
the 5G experience to the next level,
Sky Germany
produce a handball match fully in the
cloud. The goal was to bring viewers
even closer to the action by mixing
multiple broadcast and smartphone
camera feeds in a streamlined cloudproduction
workflow.
With O2 providing a high-speed 5G
network, Sky once again selected
LiveU for the transmission: several
LiveU LU800 units and smartphones
with the LU-Smart streaming app
delivered the handball
feeds
into the Vizrt
to
the AWS cloud. Adapting the NDI®
protocol, the live signals integrated
seamlessly
production platform. This
and
cloud
allowed
Sky to make use of additional Vizrt
cloud-production products for video
switching, graphics
analysis.

last year, we were once
again demonstrating the
potential of using 5G in live
sports with another end-to-end
production. With the integrated
LiveU and Vizrt technology, we
were able to bring the handball

transmission quality. "
In
another
boosted
example,
sports
of German Elections in
2021 with LiveU Matrix
and Blackbird. The
project was managed by
CBC, the production and
technology/IT company
of
Deutschland
Mediengruppe RTL
and
a
longstanding LiveU
customer.
CBC used the LiveU
Matrix IP cloud-based
management
distribution platform
for dynamic
content
complementing its
LiveU field
of
and
live news
sharing,
existing fleet
units. Live feeds
were shared from 12 political party
venues in Berlin and Magdeburg and
received directly into Matrix's cloud
channels with all the incoming feeds
recorded in real-time. Selected feeds
were then distributed to multiple
receivers
and
broadcast on the
national news as well as additional
German broadcasters, facilitating
a collaborative effort between the
broadcasters. SRT feeds were also
ingested into the Matrix platform
for the first time. LiveU's network
operations
centre (NOC) provided
proactive monitoring of the feeds
with dedicated alerts in real-time.
In parallel, the files were accessed
in almost real-time using Blackbird's
cloud-native editing platform.
Working remotely, from safe and
convenient
locations, important
at the time, distributed teams of
editors were able to rapidly and
collaboratively
clip, edit, enrich
and publish highlights of the many
events. Blackbird
both short and long form highdefinition
digital assets to multiple
digital
channels
simultaneously
including social and web as well
as to broadcast media partners for
re-purposing.
