Mobile Workstations:
Enabling Better, Faster
Content Creation
For Broadcast

F

or broadcasters and content
creators, the adage "time is
money" has always been true, but
changing market dynamics have made
this sentiment more pressing than
ever before. Increased competition,
evolving business models, and more
savvy consumers have created the
need to deliver and deploy larger
amounts of more complex and higher
quality content - and to do so faster,
and with lower budgets.
Because of this, the tools artists
and broadcasters use to create and

graphical processing (GPU), compute
power (CPU), and memory that have
begun to rival standalone desktop
workstations, allowing users to create
and deliver large amounts of complex
content, no matter their location.
And, perhaps more importantly, these
machines have become so reliable
due to their durability, thermal
management, and battery life that they
reduce the possibility of downtime for
the user - a must in an industry where
productivity and profitability go hand
in hand.

E3-1500M v5 CPU for

NVIDIA Quadro GPUs for

X-Rite Pantone color calibration,
keeping colors accurate
throughout the life of
the product;
A new FLEX Performance Cooling
system, with dual-fan design
allowing optimal uptime,
as well as cooler, quieter,
and faster performance;
4K UHD display or optional
FHD touch (17-inch display in
the Lenovo ThinkPad P70); and
MIL-Spec tested for maximum
durability.

In addition, the Lenovo ThinkPad
P70 features up to 64 GB of DDR4
ECC memory for fast data access and
two Intel Thunderbolt 3 ports for
fast connectivity. The system also
features the ability to handle up to four

storage devices, and up to a terabyte
of SSD storage utilising the latest PCIe
technology for speeds up to five times
faster than current SATA technology.
With content complexity and volume
driving increased file sizes, the ability
to access larger amounts of data is
key to driving greater production
efficiency.
Many of these features, previously
available only in desktop workstations,
were thought to be unachievable in a
mobile workstation. Yet the growing
demand for more flexibility from artists
