THE IMPORTANCE
OF WATER
The importance of water for
training was noted in research
detailed in the Journal of Strength
and Conditioning Research, where
the authors said that " Water
affects athletic performance more
than any other nutrient. " Failure to
factor water into your training can
hold back your progress
significantly.
This is not just a runner's
dilemma, inadequate water intake
affects the performance of the
strength and speed of other
athletes as well. If you're not
getting enough water, your
muscles are impaired substantially.
This hurts your performance,
hindering your power output and
dragging down your anaerobic
strength during a workout. Quite
simply, a lack of sufficient water
intake can ruin your workout.
Water is so vital to your
performance that by not getting
enough of it you impair your
strength and power. This
impairment can be serious and
may even be a cause for injury.
Unfortunately, many trainees are
either unaware of this or don't take
it seriously.
What's amazing is that there's
a direct connection between water
deficits and an athlete's ability to
produce power, according to The
Journal of Strength and
Conditioning Research article.
The bad news from the
research is that most athletes and
trainees don't drink enough water
- only approximately sixty-six
percent of the required water
replacement is achieved. This
means most people are working
out with an inadequate water
supply. The good news is that if
you start drinking enough water
your performance will improve
notably.
This means that for all the
fancy drinks that people buy,
they're missing the mark on the
most significant nutrient of all,
water, and, performance-wise, it's
costing them.
Ground zero for training
nutrition is water intake - ample
and consistent. You'll never hear
any of the drink manufacturing
companies pointing this out -
because they don't sell water. Z

he first question you may ask is, " Is
there a relationship between food
and pain? " The answer is yes. Some
foods can trigger pain, while other foods
may suppress pain.
The first type of pain that we will talk
about is the most common pain reported
to any physician. The headache may
seem very simple in definition, but the
correct diagnosis of the type of headache
is extremely complicated. For our
purposes, we will categorize headaches
into one of two types, migraine, and nonmigraine.
The
majority of headaches present as
non-migraine, and the fact is, something is
triggering them. Many factors such as
hormones, heavy exercise or strenuous

labor, and drug-related factors are all to
blame for the common headache. Nonmigraine
headaches can often lead to
migraine complaints. There are as many
causes of headaches, as there are causes of
fluctuating gas prices. Environmental
factors often play an additional role and
cause pain triggers when mixed with
certain foods.
The average patient is likely to
experience a minimum of one headache a
week. This factor can be devastating when
you consider the amount of money lost
with all of those headache patients missing
work. The statistics are quite staggering
and reach up into the billions of dollars in
association with this problem.
It's estimated that approximately onequarter
of the population has difficulty
digesting any particularly given food. That
number may seem conservative with
reports relative to lactose intolerance
alone. Some of the best headache clinics in
the world look at common food allergies as
a major trigger for headaches.
The most common are dairy products,
seafood, wheat gluten, coffee, and
chocolate. Many times, an allergy test will
prove negative for any particular food. The
truth is, certain foods like chocolate will
stimulate the brain to produce peptides,
