- BUILDING FOR GENERATIONS -
For the past several years, traveling, and especially
air travel, has been a headache. First there
was Covid, followed by more Covid, followed by
more of the same. Coupled with that, pilot and
staff shortages have severely compromised the
airlines' ability to meet pent up travel demands.
The third whammy impacting travel-and most
likely here to stay-is the severe weather patterns
that have created havoc worldwide. As
I write this (during the holiday season), news
reports showing scenes of miserable travelers
stranded at airports are pretty much daily occurrences-or
should I say daily nightmares.
Given all that, it's no wonder that more and more
homeowners have redirected their vacation budgets
for home improvements intended to keep
them happier staying home. Projects involving
outdoor living spaces have soared over the past
5 years and there doesn't appear to be any slow
down in demand. In fact, not only are homeowners
investing more in outdoor living upgrades,
many are doing so in a really big way.
Our cover story in this edition is one such project.
So much so, that their new backyard makeover-complete
with an upscale pool and spa
topped off with a magnificent and award-winning
poolhouse addition-resembles something you'd
see only at a fine luxury resort. Completed by
the Lititz-based builder and remodeler, Garman
Builders, this project was actually the 5th home
improvement project in which the homeowners
chose Garman. As I've been saying for years,
there's no higher compliment from a client than
choosing a contractor for repeat business.
Our FEATURE article in this edition provides an
update-accompanied by some very appealing
photos-on what's new in the world of fireplaces
submitted by LanChester Grill & Hearth. In our
Ask ThE ExpERTs column, DM Stokes Home
Renovations offers some great advice on reducing
the stress level during a renovation project while
Brubaker Inc. provides some insightful ideas on
making your laundry room/area better organized,
more efficient, and way more attractive. In ThE
GALLERY are two very attractive photo spreads.
The first from Hanselman Landscape & Gardens,
showcases gardens from an Inside Out perspective
in which windows function as a living painting.
The second, submitted by Haldeman Bros.
Masonry is a sampling of their beautiful brick and
stone work in a variety of applications.
In closing, I'd like to draw your attention to the
BIA's 2023 Pillar Awards announcement on page
6. Congrats to this years winners as well as to
all who participated. As I've said over the years,
Lancaster County has no shortage of
dedicated and talented professionals in
the home improvement industry and
