Samaritan Welcomes New Staff
Heidi Kanagy, MSW, LSW - Therapist
Heidi is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) with
thirty years of experience providing mental
health treatment in a variety of professional
settings. She is a graduate of the University
of Maryland (Baltimore) School of Social
Work. She has practiced in crisis counseling,
group and individual treatment, and pastoral
care contexts. She uses an integrative
approach that includes client-centered therapy, Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy, experiential therapy, and insight-oriented
therapy. She is committed to creating space for each client
to experience safety in a trusting therapeutic setting as they
explore and identify needs for healing, growth, and recovery. In
doing so, she encourages individuals to identify their strengths
and unique gifts that will offer empowerment and resilience for
their lives. Using an eclectic treatment approach, she provides
support primarily for adults with conditions related to life
transitions, depression and anxiety, grief and loss, spirituality,
stress management, aging, and care-giver needs.
Kathryn Landis, MSW, LSW - Therapist
Kate is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
who earned her master's degree at Widener
University. She has a bachelor's degree in
social work from Millersville University.
She has 25 plus years of professional
experience working with all age groups
within the outpatient and inpatient settings.
She primarily works with adults. Kate
has experience in working with depression, anxiety, bipolar,
trauma, grief, loss, anger, adjustment challenges, illness, and
schizophrenia, to name a few. She offers a holistic approach in
working from a strength-based, person-centered, and cognitivebehavioral
perspective. Kate offers a supportive, caring
environment to facilitate gaining insight and healing.
Josh Tonkay - Masters Candidate Therapist and
TeenHope Intern
Josh is a master's level counseling student in
his third and final year of study. He specializes
in addictions and co-occurring disorders and
was recently named the 2023 Outstanding
Addictions Student by the Kutztown
University chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota
counseling honors society. After receiving
his bachelor's degree from Lehigh University, Josh gained
experience on the front lines of the Philadelphia opioid crisis,
providing case-work and employment support for individuals
in recovery while leading mental health support groups on
topics of mindfulness, self-care, grief, and loss. Through this
work, Josh has developed a passion for mental wellness and
communal healing. He provides emotionally-focused narrative
counseling that prioritizes relationship building and love of
self. Josh is an LGBTQIA+ affirming counselor and happily
works with individuals, couples, and alternative relationship
configurations.
Danielle Figueroa - Clinical and TeenHope
Intern
Danielle is a master's student pursuing
a degree in Community and Trauma
Counseling at Thomas Jefferson University.
Danielle specializes in helping clients find
balance of body, mind, and spirit by taking a
creative and holistic approach. For the past
decade, Danielle has worked for a variety of
local nonprofits serving diverse and underserved populations in
Lancaster County. Most recently, she served as a senior leader
for a science-based addiction prevention organization.
Danielle enjoys using a person-centered and strengths-based
approach to promote self-care and well-being. She also
incorporates elements of mindfulness-based skills, such as
breathwork, guided meditation, and body awareness. Danielle
works with individuals of all ages, including adolescents,
couples, and families. She welcomes individuals of all cultural
and religious backgrounds, and also works with the LGBTQ+
community. In her free time, Danielle loves traveling, trying
new foods, practicing yoga, and taking walks in nature with her
dog and husband.
Annie Zimmerman - Development and
Marketing Coordinator
An advocate for accessible mental health
resources, Annie joined Samaritan Center
to help expand the center's reach and
strengthen donor relations. After receiving
a Bachelor of Arts in German Studies, she
began her career in the corporate sector
and left to work with non-profits in 2020. Since then, Annie
has relished the opportunity to leverage her communications
and marketing skills for charitable causes. She looks forward
to supporting the Center's fundraising efforts and being part
of their important mission in the local community. Outside of
work, Annie is a dedicated daily runner and avid baker.
