The way to create that candidate experience extends
beyond providing the newest and most effi cient
technology. For example, Nunez points to his children's
favourite gumball machine-the spiral gumball machine.
Whilst it is slower than the usual model and doesn't
provide a differentiated product, it can charge more
because the target customers (in this case, his children)
enjoy the experience more and have a greater emotional
connection to the product.
Two organisations take different approaches that
enhance the application experience beyond the needs of
corporate paperwork:
One company still offers a traditional recruitment
process to candidates who are called in for an interview,
but also provides a small packet of the company's
product as a gift. Whilst this is partially because
candidates are considered customers, it's also a way to
show appreciation for their time. According to newly
onboarded employees, this gesture made them feel they
weren't begging for the job.
A construction company engages with senior-level
candidates during the recruitment process by taking
them on site visits. By providing a bird's eye view into
actual projects and experiences, candidates have a clearer
view of their possible role and potential within the
organisation.
Nunez says these types of efforts are important for
engaging candidates and making a company seem more
attractive. " Part of that is brand and reputation, but the
other side is how it feels to engage with you during that
evaluation process. Make no mistake, those individuals,
irrespective of whether they're permanent, contract
workers, or whatever, are evaluating you as to whether
you're the right kind of company that they'd like to work
for. "
If a candidate has a negative experience, they may not
even bother to apply and if they do, there's no guarantee
that they will accept an offer. That's why organisations
today should focus on how it feels to interact with the
recruiter, the manager, and the candidate, Nunez says.
4 Strategies for
Recruitment Success
1. Connect the corporate marketing
and customer service departments.
The employee value proposition (EVP) and
customer relationship management are
part of the same thought process so it's
critical that they are aligned.
2. Don't assume, ask. Run EVP and
experience management roundtables.
Take the time to understand what people
actually think about the existing processes,
what they want from the process, and
what matters to them.
3. Develop a playbook so that the
messages from the corporation,
customer service, marketing, and
HR can be consistent across the
organisation. " That's what's going
to defi ne your true culture as you
disseminate it to the market, " says Nunez.
4. Consider an experience
management platform. Ask about
reconfi guring the customer service
department platform to use in the
recruitment process, because even if it's
only done at the intervention level, it
can be powerful for managing candidate
experience.
