APAC in Focus
This year's HRO Today Forum in Hong Kong was designed to enhance collaboration, learning, and
best practice sharing. This workshop-based approach focused on problem-solving in order to help
executives " Drive Corporate Strategy. "

Several HR challenges were tackled:
Aligning Talent Acquisition to Drive Corporate Strategy (see page 6 for more)
To adapt to disruption, whether from new technology or changing consumer desires, James
Henness, head of business solutions and technology accounts for PeopleScout, says that talent
acquisition needs to be aligned with corporate strategy so that hiring can be done " ahead of the
curve. "
Artificial Intelligence and Robotic Process Automation in Talent Acquisition (see page 10 for more)
AI is being used on a daily basis, says Michael Uhlmann, RPO solutions design manager for
Asia Pacific at Alexander Mann Solutions, but the technology is taking some time to develop.
" We're talking about an error rate where the machine is making a prediction and giving us a
recommendation but it is actually missing out on certain things, " Ulhmann says. " It's not going to
be the only decision-maker in the foreseeable future. There will be a place for that to be a part of
other factors that a recruiter or an HR person will consider. "

" It's clear now that the age of thinking that the recruiter's role is going to be redundant is really
not the case at all, " says Tamara Sigerhall, managing consultant at Korn Ferry Professional Search.
" It's no longer feared. It probably ironically makes the role of the recruiter more human. The
EQ is going to be really important. The machines or the technology are doing all of the other
components. "

" Using technology just for productivity gains isn't a best practice anymore. It's almost standard
practice now, " says Alfie Nunez, managing director for business development and client solutions
at Allegis Global Solutions. " If you're not doing even that, you're in real trouble. "
Total Talent Management and the Rise of the Contingent Workforce (see page 16 for more)
" The idea of total talent management is actually pretty matured in some European countries and
the U.S., " says Mehul Rajparia, general manager and head of the talent acquisition business unit
at Lumesse APAC. But Asia is very different, particularly as cultures vary widely across China, India,
Hong Kong, and other countries.
