More Strategic
Alexander Mann Solutions' Martin Cerullo gives the lay of the land.

lead - innovation and marketing at Alexander Mann
Solutions, Hong Kong, after the organisation fi nished
fi rst as the overall leader in APAC section of HRO
Today's RPO Baker's Dozen (see page 27). Cerullo gave
an overview of APAC, specifi cs on the challenges facing
both providers and clients, and what's changing.
How has Alexander Mann Solutions' presence developed
in the APAC region?
We've been growing at a double-digit pace for the
past four to fi ve years, and we have close to 500
employees in the region. They are either split between
on-site/onshore roles in the key markets such as Hong
Kong, Australia, Singapore, and Japan. We have client
service centres in China and Shanghai, but our largest
one in the region is in Manila, Philippines. We offer
the full suite of AMS services across the region.
How would you describe the state of the market?
We are bringing global clients into the regions and
supporting them, as well as some clients developed
within the region. We cover fi nancial services,
pharmaceuticals, and healthcare amongst others.
The energy sector is very strong in Australia. I think
the whole energy sector is in a stage in its evolution.
I think an aging workforce and a need for technical
roles, whether they're on a permanent basis or
contract basis, are ever increasing. You'll see a lot of
international sourcing being done for Australia to
bring talent in.
From a labour market perspective, there have been
some blips in terms of hiring demand, but in general
this has been a strong year in terms of volume of
hiring. In fact, in our fi nancial services sectors, we've
had the busiest year for many years in the region.
There's been a little bit of slowdown in places like
Australia, but generally volume has held up. We are
still seeing interest in people overseas moving into
Asia. There's a sense that there's opportunity in this
region. Whether from the U.K., the United States, or
Australia, there is talent looking to get into the Asian
marketplace.
The major centres for signing multi-country
outsourcing deals are primarily Europe or the U.S.,
and being brought into Asia Pacifi c. We're also
seeing single country deals in China, India, Japan, the
Philippines, and in southeast Asia tiger economies
such as Vietnam. Vietnam specifi cally is becoming even
more pronounced at the moment.
