NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF WORK
Multinationals Focus on Mobile Workforces
In today's business world, multinational companies that want to
remain competitive must consider mobility a core part of their
global talent strategies. This means not only offering more
international assignments in a greater variety of locations, but
also evaluating assignments using cultural knowledge, preparing
for regional and lateral moves, and modifying compensation
approaches. Mercer's 2017 Cost of Living Survey offers insights
into the mobility needs and preferences of employees.
The survey found that African, Asian, and European cities are
currently the most expensive locations for working abroad, and
the most desirable location for workers is New York City. WinstonSalem,
North Carolina, on the other hand, was the least desirable
locale. Specifically, the most expensive cities are:
1. Luanda (Angola)
2. Hong Kong
3. Tokyo
4. Zurich
5. Singapore
6. Seoul
7. Geneva
8. Shanghai
9. New York City
10. Bern (Switzerland)
Fair and competitive pay and opportunities for promotion are
also top priorities for mobile employees this year. As a result,
multinational organisations are reassessing the cost of expatriate
packages for their international assignees, taking into account
factors such as housing market instability and inflation and their
impact on the cost of doing business.

17.73 per cent. The listing is expected to have a far-reaching
impact on the future development of China's HR market. As of
the end of 2015, China's HR service market as a whole reported
total revenue of 968 billion yuan with the figure on track to
surpass 2 trillion yuan by 2020. In addition, the fast growth of an
industry leader will facilitate consolidation of the highly
fragmented industry and attract more capital that can be
expected to boost further growth.
