Onward and Upward
There's no better way to start a New Year than with good news from the previous:
Both the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC) outsourcing
markets showed growth, according to advisory firm Information Services Group (ISG).
EMEA's 7 per cent growth was driven by an increase in large contracts and an uptick
in activity in France. ISG's APAC outsourcing index showed a 45 per cent increase in
annual contract value in APAC-plus deal count rose 11 per cent for 2014.
Some of the less mature markets experienced an increase in activity: EMEA's fourth
largest market, France, had a banner year with year-on-year growth of 125 per cent,
according to ISG. Everest Group also reports an uptick in multi-process HR outsourcing
deals in newer-to-the-game APAC countries including India, China, Japan, Indonesia,
Taiwan, and South Korea.
One of APAC's more mature markets, Australia, had a growth year with average
contract value up 40 per cent over last year, according to ISG. Plus, the advisory firm
reports that Australia had one of APAC's largest deals, valued at US$100 million or
more. This is one of the reasons we decided to make this region the focus of our cover

talent challenges and how recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) is helping
organisations gain a competitive edge. The region is widely regarded as having a
talent shortage, but as the recovering economy has encouraged workers' confidence,
passive candidates are more open to new opportunities. Here is where RPO is really
stepping in. Innovative sourcing techniques that tap into passive candidates-those
who aren't actively looking, but would consider a move if very attractive-are critical.
" In the RPO market, we're also seeing clients who really want to be driving more
proactive sourcing approaches, " says Kimberley Hubble, global RPO leader for
Hudson. " By that I mean really trying to reach out into the passive candidate market,
not simply just looking at active candidates, through ads and LinkedIn, but really
reaching out to people who have maybe never considered their company before. "
And this proactive approach can breed success. According to LinkedIn's global
research report, Talent Trends 2014, 42 per cent of Australian respondents report they
are open to considering a new opportunity when approached by a recruiter. Learn
