HR teams are becoming recognized as a more crucial
component of the business, according to a new
CareerBuilder survey of United States CEOs. In a
complex post-recession job market with a growing
talent gap, top executives are relying more on
recruitment and HR leaders for innovative business
strategies grounded in data. The majority of CEOs (90
percent) say it is important that HR leaders be profi cient
in workforce analytics, with about 35 percent of
executives saying this is absolutely essential.
focusing on offering higher salaries and promoting
quickly alone may not be as competitive when
recruiting talent, with responses at 6 percent and 5
percent respectively.
Nearly half of CEOs (48 percent) surveyed said that
their companies have lost money due to ineffi cient
recruiting. In a complex recruitment market with
a talent gap, 60 percent of CEOs reported their
companies have not been able to reach their full
potential because they cannot fi nd enough qualifi ed
candidates, and 23 percent said the pressure to raise
wages is among the issues that keep them up at night.
The top three recruitment challenges CEOs identifi ed
for their organizations are:
* Lack of skilled candidates (49 percent)
* Ineffi cient recruitment process, i.e. takes too long to
fi ll jobs (35 percent)
* Candidate experience is not as good as it could be (25
percent)
Survey: Culture and Brand Equals Competitive Edge
A recent survey found organizational culture and brand
being primary recruitment advantages. Futurestep, a
Korn Ferry company, recently revealed results of an
executive survey on what gives companies a competitive
advantage when recruiting top talent. Nearly twothirds
(61 percent) of respondents say organizational
culture is the most important recruiting advantage for
global organizations, followed by a leading employer
brand at 26 percent. According to the survey, companies

The survey fi nds that as the hunt for talent is getting
more diffi cult (61 percent of respondents say it's harder
to fi nd qualifi ed candidates than it was a year ago),
there is a strong need for employers to closely evaluate
and understand what attracts and motivates the ideal
candidates for their company. While salary continues
to be the top negotiation sticking point (51 percent),
fl exibility comes in second (33 percent), followed by
title (11 percent), and vacation (4 percent).
Q2 Concerns
Deloitte recently released its Q2 CFO Signals survey with
highs and lows from CFOs. The quarter's net optimism is
down (only plus 18.8 percent compared to last quarter's
plus 34.4 percent); domestic hiring expectations are also
down from last quarter's 2.4 percent to 1.2 percent this
quarter; revenue growth expectations are down (to 3.1
percent from 5.4 percent last quarter); and 65 percent
of CFOs believe the U.S. equity markets are overvalued,
up from 46 percent from last quarter.
This internal CFO pessimism is unlike the outlook
toward North America as whole, as 59 percent of CFOs
describe the North American economy as either good or
very good, unchanged from last quarter. Other fi ndings
include that employees will become more responsible
for rising healthcare costs, as nearly 80 percent of
CFOs say they are managing healthcare costs by
shifting fi nancial responsibility to employees. Concerns
regarding cyber security remain an issue, as almost onefourth
of CFOs say they are insuffi ciently prepared for
an attack and only 10 percent feel well-prepared.
Millennials: Job Hoppers
RecruitiFi's Millennial Outlook Survey found that
although 83 percent of Millennials acknowledge that
