has hindered their business, and 22 percent say political
correctness has made their business stronger.
* While both male and female employers say they
have debated with a co-worker politics, over male
employees (20 percent) reported a higher incidence
of arguing politics at work than female employees (15
percent).
* Comparing age groups, younger workers (ages 1824)
are the most likely to report engaging in heated
political debates at work at 24 percent.
* When it comes to employees, 13 percent have argued
with a co-worker over Donald Trump and 8 percent
have argued over Hillary Clinton.
Experts advise that although employees and managers
alike should feel free to express their opinions at
work, they should also be encouraged to keep political
conversations civil. Fairness and respect are paramount
during election season, and political chit-chat that
becomes overly heated or confrontational can create a
hostile work environment.
More than 3,200 workers and more than 1,900 managers
in the private sector across industries participated in the
nationwide survey, conducted online by Harris Poll on
behalf of CareerBuilder.
Women Face Challenges Saving for Retirement
Men and women participate in 401(k) plans equally,
but research from Aon Hewitt shows that this equality
doesn't hold true when evaluating overall retirement
readiness. A new report from Aon Hewitt research
finds five out of six women are not saving enough for
retirement.
The data reveals:
* Eighty-three percent of U.S. women aren't saving
enough to meet their needs in retirement, compared to
74 percent of men.
* Women need to save more than men to meet their
retirement needs (11.5 times their final pay compared
to 10.6 times pay respectively).
* On average, women are contributing 7.5 percent of
salary to their 401(k), more than a full percentage
point behind their male counterparts (8.7 percent)
further creating a gap in savings.
* As a result, women, on average, will need to work until
age 69-one year longer than men- in order to meet
100 percent of their needs in retirement.
Women face significant stumbling blocks when it comes
to saving enough for retirement because they often have
longer lifespans, lower salaries and a greater likelihood
of taking hardship withdrawals from their 401(k)s.
Making retirement and financial wellbeing a priority is
an important step in overcoming those challenges.
Aon Hewitt also suggests that employers add plan
features to increase savings rates and offer financial
wellness tools, such as health care and financial market
education, budgeting and debt management to help
women close the retirement savings gap.
