The Cost of Keeping Talent Rises
With job-hopping on the rise and a record number of
people changing jobs annually (27 percent), today's
employers must work hard to retain and engage their
workforces. ADP Research Institute's new research
report, Evolution of Work 2.0: The Me vs. We Mindset,
found that 63 percent of employees are actively and
passively looking for new jobs.
The report also reveals that there is a " magic number "
raise-wise that often persuades an employee to take a
new job-that number is 13 percent. All of this suggests
that the current job market is employee-driven and that
organizations should be worried about securing workers.
In response to this trend, organizations should zoom
in on the needs, goals, and desires of the individuals in
their workforce instead of solely focusing on big-picture
areas such as financial performance, reputation, and
long-term career planning. Failing to do so often results
in a disconnect between the corporate " we " mentality
of employers and the individualized " me " mentality of
employees.
Other findings from the report include:
* Sixty-three percent of an employer's workforce is open
to leaving their current company for another job.
* For as many as 46 percent of employees, a new position
would not even have to pay as much as their current
position for them to accept it.
* Forty-seven percent of employees have walked away
from a job that did not meet their expectations.
New Report Champions Wearables in Wellness Strategy
The FitBit and other wearable activity trackers have
become popular devices for a healthy lifestyle since the
first model became available in 2009. In that time, they
have also evolved into compelling tools for companies
to enhance their employee wellness programs by
allowing employees to clearly measure progress toward
fitness goals. As of 2016, one in six U.S. consumers uses
a wearable smart watch or fitness band, and more
than 75 million devices are expected to be in use in the
workplace by 2020. Even so, many employers lack a full
understanding of what these devices can do for them
and for their wellness programs.
A new report from the Health Enhancement Research
Organization (HERO) aims to solve this problem
by examining the methods and outcomes of using
wearables in workplace wellness. The Wearables in
Wellness Case Study Report suggests the following
best practices for increasing the strategic impact of
wearables:
* Give or subsidize devices for employees instead of
asking them to buy their own
* Set small goals and encourage employees to meet
them, offering incentives for success
* Whenever possible, involve spouses and domestic
partners to increase participation and create a support
system outside of work
* Identify ways to improve program success by starting
out with a pilot program before implementing across
