HR Service Delivery Models Underemployed
Despite the need for cutting-edge technology to align
HR with business needs in today's digital environment,
a new study from Mercer finds that only 35 percent of
organizations worldwide employ an HR service delivery
model that includes centers of expertise (COEs), HR
business partners (HRBPs), and HR shared services (HRSS).
These three components are characteristic of highperforming
HR functions, and HRSSs that don't have
them are far less likely to accomplish business objectives.
Mercer's 2017 HR Transformation Study - How HR Needs
to Change also found that although few organizations
(17 percent) plan to change their existing model, the
majority (93 percent) of executives are planning an
organization redesign in the next two years, and 41
percent expect to move support functions to shared
services.
There are strong ties between continuously evolving HRservice
delivery models and performance, and investment
in technology also plays a role in success. In fact, as a
result of embracing technology:
* Ninety-four percent were able to deliver exceptional
customer value.
* Eighty-three percent reacted proactively to disruptive
change.
* Eighty-nine percent drove innovation.
* Eighty-six percent enhanced their reputation as a great
place to work.
* Ninety-one percent were able to attract the talent that
they needed to excel.
Healthcare Struggles With Credentialing
Despite the ongoing push for automation in HR, the
credentialing process for medical professionals remains
sluggish and taxing for many healthcare organizations,
according to new research from SkillSurvey.
" Medical credentialing " refers to the process by which
healthcare organizations grant clinical privileges that
allow medical professionals to deliver care to patients.
And in their second annual poll on the state of today's
medical credentialing processes, SkillSurvey found that
credentializing a single medical provider takes between
five to six weeks, sometimes longer, for 84 percent of
medical staff services professionals. This represents a 17
percent increase in time, up from the 2016 survey.
The increase indicates that healthcare organizations are
being weighed down by traditional, paper-laden hiring
processes and that their struggle-or reluctance-to
automate can lead to onboarding delays for clinicians.
Some organizations have adopted electronic solutions to
solve the problem, but the rate of adoption varies widely
across the various steps of the credentialing process, with
a healthy 77 percent of respondents using automation
for primary source verification but only 37 percent using
an automated credentialing committee review.
The SkillSurvey poll also found that:
* Almost three-quarters (73 percent) of respondents
have digitized one or more steps in their credentialing
process.
* Forty-four percent of respondents are receiving
completed applications in less than two weeks when
using an automated credentialing process.
* After going digital, 60 percent of respondents
reported time savings and 59 percent experienced faster
turnaround times.
