says Dornfeld.

leadership, networking, and problem-solving skills. " A
corporate volunteer program not only gives people
opportunities to do good-it's also good for them, as
volunteering enables them to develop new and enhance
existing skills, develop relationships with their co-workers
across the company, and feel more connected to their
employer and the communities in which they work, " Farris
explains.

Not all volunteer programs are created equal, and companies that want to maximize participation need to offer
volunteer initiatives that are easy to engage with and compelling for employees. Here are some options:
* Skills-based volunteering opportunities. " Skills-based volunteering results in a more meaningful experience for
participants, as it gives them the chance to support a cause they care about by sharing their talents (like coding, for
example). When people do what they are good at, it's great for the recipient and the benefactor, " says Vivian Farris,
vice president of people at Benevity.
* Short-term, in-house programs. Offering quick, in-house volunteer opportunities is a relatively easy and lowcommitment
way for organizations to engage employees and make a difference. " Provide employees with the
opportunity to spend an hour or two taking part in a range of activities, like making care kits for homeless shelters, "
says Farris.
* Team-building volunteering exercises. Organizations can also make volunteering efforts into mandatory teambuilding
exercises, increasing employee cooperation, connectivity, and shared sense of pride in their efforts to help
others. By scheduling these programs during work hours and involving management senior leadership, the benefi ts
can be compounded.
