Buyers and providers need to make sure they are
applying their partnership mentality to the metrics.
" Next Gen requires both the client and the provider
to make a commitment to promote sustainable habits
that promote the adaptation of data and data analytics

dashboards that offer real-time metrics are essential to
making sound decisions to achieve the hiring goals and
targets of the client. "
* Cutting-edge technology. When RPO began its
mainstream rise, the primary services involved process
improvements augmenting the way employers found
talent, but it was much more people-intensive. " An
ATS was often part of the service, but technology was
not a major part of the experience. Buyers in those
days wanted to build scalability and sustainability
into the talent acquisition and workforce
management functions. Large enterprise deals were
more or less unheard of, " explains Condon. " Typically,
RPO partnered with a specific geographic market,
business unit, or functional group within enterprise
employers. "
But Condon says that all that has now changed. " While
having great teams is still vital to deliver great services,
technology is now a massive part of any solution. Also,
using UX design principles, we can augment the human
experience with next-generation CRM marketing
platforms and AI technologies. That is now a reality. "
With the explosion of new HR technology coming to
market, HR leaders should ensure their RPO provider
brings best-in-breed technology to the solution.
" Buyers should also be looking for innovation in service
and technology to help improve their speed and access
to the best candidates through a superior candidate
experience, " says Owen.
Technology can also solve the issues arising from
changing demographics of the workforce. Baby
boomers are leaving the workforce, and millennials
are looking for flexibility and non-traditional forms of
employment. The freelance workforce in the United
States is growing, representing 35 percent of the
workforce in 2016. With the new RPO technology,
there is an emphasis on curating a personalized
candidate experience, which can help access the
previously inaccessible talent.
" We can now directly market to candidates using
micro-segmentation, and create a one-on-one
experience using chatbots driven via machine learning
algorithms to support the candidate through the initial
application and screening process and beyond. This AI
will lead to improved hiring decisions and less bias, "
says Condon.
Technology improves both the human experience as
well as efficiency. " The possibilities are nearly endless.
By blending high touch with high tech, we have the
best of both worlds: a personalized experience that's
augmented and enhanced through technology, and
our people can focus on building personal relationships
with our candidates and customers, spending much
more time on the high-value work that our clients
expect. " says Condon.
Signs are also pointing to an increase of use of robotic
process automation (RPA) in RPO strategy. In recent
years there has been more of an effort to apply RPA
to HR. RPA can alleviate recruiters from some of the
menial, repetitive tasks early on in the hiring process,
and potentially continue through to onboarding. RPA
could assist with sorting resumes and data entry, or
later on with billing and payments.
Be mindful though: AI and next-generation RPO
technology is not intended to replace the recruiter,
explains MacDonald. " It does the homework for us so
we can make the informed decisions and concentrate
on the nuances of hiring the best candidate for the
job. "
The strategies and technologies in the new generation
of RPO are more innovative than ever, and if the
industry continues to progress at this rate, there is
unprecedented RPO capacity around the corner. " They
say the only way to predict the future is to invent it,
and in RPO, it seems like we're inventing the future
every day, " says Condon.
