Let's " UNIFi " All Aspects of Talent Acquisition
Talent acquisition has become increasingly complex. The rapid adoption of social media, mobile tech, and
video recruitment tools has offered new sourcing and engagement channels-but at the cost of greater mental
bandwidth. Talent pros have to juggle multiple apps, multiple data sets and multiple interfaces. Just logging
in and out can be a hassle. Add in reference checking, drug screening, assessment and background checking
apps - you have the IT equivalent of three feet of paper on a talent pro's desk. Perhaps you can find something
on it, if only you can remember where it was. These two trends-the creation of more powerful technological
tools while needing a way to hide the complexity of managing the data flowing from all those tools - has led to
talent-software firm iCIMS to create a platform hub called UNIFi. Susan Vitale, Chief Marketing Officer of iCIMS,
recently offered her insights into the new platform:

What was UNIFi designed to
solve?
There are lots of systems now
involved in talent acquisition.
iCIMS introduced its platform " UNIFi "
to simplify the use of multiple
systems and allow employers and
customers to still select best in breed
providers, but use all of them in one
hub where all of apps " live. "
Q:

What impact is this designed
to have on the talent pro?
It makes it much easier
for talent acquisition
professionals to get a grip on what's
going on within their operation.
They won't have to login and logout
of a dozen systems a day. They have
one central system of record that
tells them what's happening, but
they still get the benefit of using
the providers that they wish-as
opposed to using one system that
might offer a lot, but not actually be
very good at very much.
All would reside within the iCIMS
platform, but rather than jump
out of our system to jump into
background checks, that data would
live within iCIMS. All the logins and
different interfaces, exporting data
from a dozen different systems and
trying to make sense of it in Excel -
that would go away in this model.

Why was a hub so important?
A hub allows for better
data integrity, so we're
not working with different
data sets. It allows for better realtime
reporting and analytics. This
is the approach that Salesforce.
com succeeded with for sales and
marketing, where you had one hub
across sales applications. You have all
these different spokes, but one main
system of record. iCIMS is applying
this concept to talent acquisition.

How does this make the talentacquisition
pros job easier?
Right now, there is virtually
nothing out there that
tells that talent acquisition
narrative. A lot of manual workarounds
are required of companies of
all sizes to try and get that story. Also,
when things are better integrated,
their value goes up. It's really just
leveraging the tools better, and
having one master set of data, with
no jumping around. And it's about
being able to tell a more holistic story
much easier than they've ever been
able to before.

How will this trigger product
innovation?
I'm glad you asked this
question. One challenge
facing almost every software

company is this: As they grow a
customer base and work with more
and more enterprise customers,
the software firm has to do a lot of
maintenance and service. Product
innovation remains critical, but once
you start worrying about too much
maintenance, you're not able to
introduce too many features. What
UNIFi does is allows us to tap into a
huge ecosystem of partners; right
now, we have 90 partners offering
100-plus HR-related products. It's
the largest in talent acquisition.
And we're turning over the keys to
the kingdom to them, saying to our
partners: " Here are our customers'
needs: Can you build an app for
that? " We're already seeing it with
apps for texting candidates. Right
now, iCIMS cannot do that directly.
But we have a partner that can.

What's next?
We started by seeding this
marketplace with our own
apps that we developed
ourselves. Very similar to a Salesforce.
com model. We built a social
recruiting app. A video screening
tool. We're in the midst of building
a job board posting tool. Mobile
engagement is one that's upcoming.
Some cool tools also include some
strong analytics apps and different
assessment questionnaires. It's
really up to the ecosystem to build as
quickly as they can.
