SPOTLIGHT: THERMAL MANAGEMENT
High-pressure heat exchanger

Decoupling system

The BENTELER Automotive (Salzburg, Austria) high-pressure heat exchanger offers shorter charging times with effective and fast cooling. The compact exchanger is installed
in the air conditioning circuit. According to BENTELER,
coupling battery cooling and air conditioning in this way
increases the cooling power available during charging,
which shortens the battery charging time. On the one hand,
the battery and car interior can be optimally cooled while,
on the other, the battery heat can be used to heat the passenger compartment when necessary. The high-pressure
heat exchanger uses CO2 as the cooling medium. Due to the
completely sealed system, no CO2 can escape. The company claims the cooling capacity of the solution from
BENTELER is " significantly higher " compared to conventional heat exchangers.

Vibracoustic's
(Darmstadt, Germany)
decoupling system for
eCompressors is fitted
to modern batteryelectric and plug-in
hybrid vehicles.
According to the company, the solution
solves many of the
NVH challenges faced
by automotive engineers in balancing
thermal management with excessive noise and vibration from
highly loaded eCompressors. With extensive testing and simulation processes of the entire mounting system, Vibracoustic designed, developed and manufactured a bracket and mounting
assembly that eliminated internal noise and vibrations during
motion, as well as minimizing compressor noise while stationary
during fast charging. The engineering team achieved these objectives by optimizing bearing stiffness and position. They also
conducted comprehensive elastomer simulation and testing to
determine the ideal rubber compound. Proprietary software
was then used to adjust rubber component geometry for minimum wear and maximum service life. Using this approach,
Vibracoustic developed the capacity to individually select materials depending on application and tailor isolator components.

Sealed snap-action switches

Air filters

The miniature VM3S and
sub-series process sealed
snap-action switches from
CIT Relay & Switch
(Minneapolis, Minn.) are
available in either SPST
(single pole, single throw)
normally open or normally
closed or SPDT (single pole,
double throw). These UL-/cUL-recognized switches offer numerous actuator styles including pin plunger, standard, short
and long hinge levers, roller and simulated roller. Termination
options include .110-in (2.79-mm) quick connect or 300-mm
(11.81-in) UL 1015 20AWG wire. Contact material is silver or
gold over silver, and operating force offers a choice of 180 gf
(6.35 ozf) or 300 gf (10.6 ozf). With a wide array of electrical
rating options, the VM3S can be customized to fit a customer's exact requirements.

The improved MANN-FILTER
(Ludwigsburg, Germany) air
filter C 24 005 features renewed filter medium made
from recycled synthetic fibers. The green color of the
recycled fibers makes these
air filters look different from
the others. The filters include up to six PET bottles in one
square meter of filter medium. Characterized by their flameretardant properties, the filters meet the replacement intervals
prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer even under dusty conditions. Thanks to the multilayer MICROGRADE A-S medium,
the company claims the separation efficiency of the C 24 005
air filter is up to 99.5% when tested with ISO-certified test dust.
With its high dirt holding capacity throughout the entire service interval, the air filter requires only 30% of the filter medium area of traditional air filters based on cellulose media.
