New driving simulator in China
VI-grade
(Darmstadt,
Germany) recently
installed and commissioned
its
DiM250 DYNAMIC
Driving Simulator at
CEVT, Geely
Holding Group's
Sweden-based innovation
center for
future mobility solutions.
CEVT selected
the complete turnkey solution from VI-grade, with
the DiM250 simulator serving as the foundation, combined
with the VI-DriveSim VI-DriveSim software suite and the
complete active technology offering (belts, seat, brake and
shakers). The configuration features nine degrees of freedom,
going " beyond the basic six-actuator design of a
hexapod or similar, thus providing a larger workspace
while maintaining a high stiffness and low latency, " the
company said. This leads to a system suitable for low as
well as high frequencies, allowing DiM to enable both vehicle
dynamics investigation and ride and comfort on the
same driving simulator.

Gear-tooth speed sensor
Allegro MicroSystems (Manchester, NH)
(Nasdaq: ALGM) introduces a new giant
magnetoresistance (GMR) speed sensor
that measures the rotation of ferromagnetic
gears. The ATS19480 speed sensor
IC provides a single-channel solution
said to be ideal for hybrid and pure
electric vehicle (EV) transmissions, with
applicability extending to two-wheelers,
off-road vehicles, and industrial application designs requiring
speed-only information. The device adds a speed-only protocol
to the company's recently released ATS19580 transmission
speed and direction sensor IC, setting a new standard for
speed sensing and allowing developers to achieve the highest
levels of in-system capability and adaptability. With an industry-leading
air gap that's 50% larger than existing options, it
improves design-in flexibility. The fully integrated, single overmold
package lessens design complexity and simplifies the
development process, while the three-pin single inline package
(SIP) houses the IC, magnet, and EMC protection.

CFD software
Siemens Digital Industries Software (Plano, TX) launches
the latest version of Simcenter FLOEFD software, a powerful
CAD-embedded computational fluid dynamics (CFD)
tool that helps users frontload CFD simulation early into
the design process to analyze and understand the behavior
of their concepts. Due to its unique technology, it can reduce
the overall simulation time by as much as 75%, the
company claimed, adding that it runs seamlessly inside NX
and Solid Edge software, CATIA V5 and Creo. Direct integration
of structural analysis allows CAD-centric users to
easily apply CFD results to perform linear structural stress
analysis of complex PCBs accurately. A new interface to
Simcenter Nastran software allows easy transfer of CFD
results for more sophisticated structural analysis in
Simcenter 3D software.
