During his tenure as the Chair of the MidMichigan SAE Section, Mark N. Pope
devised and drafted a proposal to conduct a
meeting where the local SAE Collegiate
Design Series competitors in the MidMichigan area were the featured speakers at
an SAE Technical Dinner Meeting. The
students presented the results of their SAE
CDS competitions.
" I invited the 2001 SAE International
President, Neil Schilke, to attend the
meeting and provide an inspirational speech
to the students, which he did, " Pope said.
" Since that time, several SAE Presidents
have accepted my invitation to speak at this
event. This event has been the most
attended Mid-Michigan Section Technical
Dinner Meeting for the past 18 years. "
As the Chair of the SAE Sections Board,
he proposed that other SAE Sections
conduct a Collegiate Night as part of their
regular Technical Dinner Session program.
" Many SAE Sections are now conducting
annual Collegiate Nights as a result of my
proposal, " he said.
Pope was selected by SAE to be a
member of the SAE Vision 2020
Committee. " Due to my experience as a
member of the SAE Hybrid - EV Standards
Committee and writing skills, I proposed
the following statement to be added to the
vision statement: 'Leading in global

McFarland Award for outstanding contributions
on the SAE Engineering Meetings Board.

and added to the 2020 Vision Statement at
the SAE Vision 2020 meeting in Pittsburg,
Pennsylvania.
Pope works at DG Technologies as
Product Specialist & Education Coordinator.
