General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc (GA-ASI)
marks an important technology milestone as its first
metal additively manufactured part takes to the skies on
a SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) test flight.
ADVANCED MANUFACTURING IN
THE CONTEXT OF AEROSPACE
With the onset of reshoring in
the United States, the notion of
" advanced manufacturing " has
become increasingly pressing.
The term, however, is not well
defined. The easiest explanation
of advanced manufacturing is a
process that is not conventional,
UPDATE
such as forging, casting, extrusion, or computer
numeric controlled (CNC) machining-all very
common in aerospace.
In general, advanced manufacturing encompasses
four areas or technologies: automation, connected
factory, artificial intelligence (AI), and additive
manufacturing (AM). The first three, when combined,
are captured under the appellation of Industry 4.0
