Next-gen camera modules
Suppliers Sunny Optical
(Hong Kong) and Valens
(Hod Hasharon, Israel)
have announced a partnership
centered around
the integration of MIPI
A-PHY-compliant chipsets
into next-generation camera
modules. An A-PHY is
a long-reach serializerdeserializer
(SerDes)
physical layer interface for
multi-gig automotive connectivity.
The module
simplifies the integration of cameras, sensors and displays in
vehicles, while also incorporating functional safety and security.
The companies will be collaborating to integrate Valens's
VA70XX transmitter chipsets into Sunny Optical's camera
modules that enable ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems)
and surround view applications. These modules will
utilize a 3MP sensor with an embedded VA7021 serializer,
which will connect to an electronic control unit via Unshielded
Twisted Pair cables and connectors.

Thermal stereo imaging
A prototype of Foresight's (Ness Ziona, Israel) QuadSight
four-camera vision system has been sold to a leading
Japanese manufacturer of agricultural and heavy equipment
for testing. The system will be evaluated for use in fully autonomous
tractors in place of sensors that are also currently
being evaluated. The testing will determine if the QuadSight
thermal stereo imaging system will address detection challenges
that are caused by visibility issues such as dust and
fertilizer particles, harsh weather, sun glare and complete
darkness. The QuadSight system is unique in that it combines
both thermal imaging and visible imaging via data
from two Teledyne FLIR Boson thermal cameras and two
RGB cameras to create a comprehensive single image.

Enhanced CAD/CAM software
Open Mind
Technologies
(Needham, Mass.)
has released its
latest hyperMILL
CAD/CAM software
suite. The software
offers several new
and enhanced features,
including
more powerful NC programming in applications ranging from
2.5D to 5-axis, a new break-edge function for contour milling,
and combined pocket milling together with a finish path allowing
cutter compensation. Other highlights include increased
efficiency for 3D plane machining and a new virtual machining
capability for additive manufacturing processes. It is also now
possible to import calibrated tools from a tool management
system into hyperMILL to create programs, and then transfer
the tool list or individual tool data to the machine.

Modeling software update
COMSOL (Burlington, Mass.)
has published an update to
its Multiphysics software. The
latest edition, version 6.0,
offers a Model Manager as
well as a new workspace that
enables efficient simulation
data management. The Model
Manager features version
control, tracking changes,
and advanced search functionality
within models such as CAD data and other related
external files. Version 6.0 also introduces an Uncertainty
Quantification Module, a new add-on that uses probabilistic
design methods to quantify uncertainty in analyses and predetermined
safety margins. There also have been major improvements
to the solvers with performance speedup by a
factor of 10 in engineering areas such as heat radiation and
models subjected to nonlinear structural material behavior.
