EV battery adhesive
Dymax
(Torrington,
Connecticut)
has introduced
the 9501-F adhesive
for EV
battery assembly.
This lowshrinkage
adhesive
is specially
designed for
bonding cylindrical
battery
cells to plastic bases and holders and compatible with common
substrates such as PC, PC/ABS, nickel plated steel and
aluminum. According to Dymax, 9501-F cures tack free in
seconds upon exposure to UV/Visible light energy and is
also LED curable at 385 nm wavelength. The fast cure time
allows assembled components to be processed quickly,
thereby increasing throughput capacity and lowering manufacturing
and labor costs. Dymax also claims the adhesive
exhibits stable performance through common electric vehicle
tests, such as high temperature and humidity as well as
thermal shock.

Clinch studs
Camcar
Innovations
(Rockford, Illinois)
has introduced the
Strux SM clinch
stud for sheet aluminum
and other
soft sheet materials.
The Strux SM
stud uses an identical
hole size and
installation method
as existing units,
but its new design is optimized for applications requiring
high push-out and torsional resistance. Camcar claims that
this design minimizes panel distortion and that this stud can
be used with a single design per thread size for a full range
of sheet thicknesses. The Strux SM also creates a fully
sealed joint without the use of sealants and can be used in
applications such as roof rails and other positions that are
exposed to external environments.

Rivet nut washer combination
Autoriv (Regensburg,
Germany) offers a
combination rivet nut
and spacer/washer for
applications where
parts are shaped by
internal high pressure
to form aluminum
profiles. This rivet nut
washer combination
can be utilized for the
assembly of EV batteries,
module carriers,
and in commercial
or agricultural machinery.
Autoriv claims
the combination of a rivet nut and washer offers advantages
when used in extruded profiles and internal high-pressure
bodies such as high torque push-out and pull-through forces
and less processing time for assembly. This combination is also
useful for applications with packaging constraints and/or limited
accessibility. Autoriv also states that this combination
streamlines the manufacturing process, which offers cost savings,
shorter lead times and lower logistics costs.

Magnet bonding adhesive
Panacol (Torrington,
Connecticut) has released
the Structalit
5858 epoxy resin adhesive
developed
specifically for bonding
magnets into
electric motors. Its
high bond strength
and impact resistance
ensure reliable bonding
and can be cured
thermally in a conventional oven at temperatures from
100°C (212°F) or via induction curing for faster polymerization
and shorter curing cycles. The adhesive requires storage
between 0-10°C (32-50°F), but its stable viscosity and reactivity
allow it to be processed at ambient temperature for up
to seven days. Panacol states that the adhesive has a bond
strength of over 34 MPa (5 ksi) on steel and aluminum and
exhibits excellent bond strength even at temperatures
above 100°C.
