Upon signing in for the
welcome reception on the
evening of November 4, each
nominee and SAE staff member
was issued a custom-fitted
cowboy hat and treated to a
dinner buffet on a patio partially
overseeing the Tucson basin.
Among the SAE staff in
attendance was Chris Ciuca, who
as Vice President of Programs
oversees the SAE membership
team.
" We're here to recognize the
SAE 2020 Top Contributor Class member (and outlaw) Derek Logan (right)
rode near the front in a leisurely horseback-riding activity on the sprawling
Tanque Verde Ranch in the foothills of Tucson's Rincon Mountains.
Award event
All of those nominated for the award are invited to a
leisurely recognition event over about two and a half
days at a resort, with one dress-up reception/dinner/
ceremony in which each nominee is called forward to
be cited and to receive a special pin and plaque. The
evening culminates in announcement of that year's
winner.
For 2021, SAE's manager of volunteer engagement,
Nicole Iorfido, decided on a themed event-
specifically, cowgirl/cowboy. She chose the Tanque
Verde horse ranch in the foothills of Tucson as the
venue, which offers a number of leisure activities
including horseback-riding, yoga, mountain-biking,

tremendous...service that the
folks on this patio have brought
to SAE or through SAE. It's truly
incredible what you have done. "
Referring to the easing of
Covid-19 restrictions, he added,
" It's so nice to actually see faces, "
Ciuca added. " It's so nice to
shake hands again. "
The in-person recognition
event scheduled for the 2020 Top
Contributor Class had to be
cancelled because of the
pandemic. A virtual event was
