Diodes Incorporated (Plano,
Texas) announced an addition
to its lineup of automotivecompliant
DC-DC converters.
The DIODES AP64060Q is a
600mA synchronous buck converter
device with an input voltage
range that covers 4.5V to 40V. It incorporates a 600mΩ
high-side power MOSFET plus a 300mΩ low-side power
MOSFET so that high-efficiency step-down conversion (reaching
90%) can be delivered with minimal PCB board space. The
AP64060Q is intended for use in automotive powertrains,
infotainment systems and instrumentation clusters, as well as
vehicle exterior lighting. Its synchronous rectification eliminates
the need for an external schottky diode, while use of a
peak current mode control and built-in loop compensation
network further reduces the overall component count.

Gate Drivers
Renesas Electronics (Tokyo,
Japan) announced a new gate
driver IC that is designed to drive
high-voltage power devices such
as IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar
Transistors) and SiC (Silicon
Carbide) MOSFETs for electric vehicle
(EV) inverters. The
RAJ2930004AGM features a built-in 3.75kVrms (kV root
mean square) isolator, which is higher than the 2.5kVrms isolator
in the previous generation and reportedly can support
power devices with a voltage of up to 1200V. Additionally, the
new driver IC features superior CMTI (Common Mode
Transient Immunity) performance at 150 V/ns (nanosecond)
or higher, providing reliable communication and increased
noise immunity while meeting the high voltages and fast
switching speeds required in inverter systems.

Microclimate system
Gentherm (Northville, MI) announced
that its ClimateSense
four-zone microclimate system
will see its first deployment in
the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq. The
system features 33 unique microclimate
devices that allow
each occupant to personalize their desired level of seat heating
and cooling while working in conjunction with advanced airflow
technologies to provide individualized comfort. Gentherm states
that the system seamlessly integrates into existing vehicle architectures
and utilizes localized convective and conductive heating/cooling
solutions to significantly reduce HVAC energy consumption.
The system reportedly can deliver between 50-69%
energy savings in cold-weather testing and 34% energy savings
in hot-weather testing over conventional HVAC systems.

Coaxial connector
Hirose (Downers Grove, Illinois)
expanded its compact coaxial
connector offering to better
support the automotive market.
The U.FL(K) series features
gold-plated contacts for corrosion
resistance and superior peeling strength as well as four
ground contacts for shock and vibration resistance. The unit
combining a low-profile of only 2.5 mm (.09 in.) with highfrequency
performance. The U.FL(K) Series is intended for
use in automotive applications including antennas, AVN (audio,
video and navigation), camera modules and telematics.
The ultra-miniature footprint enables automotive designers to
miniaturize the design or add more functionality in the same
space. The U.FL Series has a low-voltage standing wave ratio
(VSWR) of 1.6 Max. (DC to 8GHz).

Chip capacitors
Cornell Dubilier (Northville, New Jersey)
released their XMPL Polymer Chip
Capacitor series to accommodate higher
voltage and capacitance requirements.
The company states that the capacitance
and voltage-stability ratings with temperature
and frequency make these units ideal
for applications where bulk storage and
high-ripple current filtering are needed.
This series reportedly features much lower ESR and a shorter
height profile than SMT aluminum electrolytics, which offers designers
the opportunity to reduce the size and cost of their highfrequency/high-ripple
applications by using fewer components.
