Common rail injector
Liebherr (Bulle, Switzerland) introduced
its LI3 common rail injector designed
for large diesel applications operating
in harsh environments. The
company states that during the realworld
test, these injectors exceeded the
20,000-hour service life of the D9812
engine they were installed in by 25%.
They are equipped with a doublewalled
housing, flat-seat control valve
and coated components, and can reportedly
withstand vibrations with impact
loads of up to 10 g. In addition, the
entire injector platform is continuously
leak-free and tuned to minimize control
leaks, which makes a significant contribution
to engine efficiency.

Traction inverters
Curtiss Wright (Christchurch, United
Kingdom) announced its line of traction
inverters designed for use in hybrid and
pure-electric applications for on- and
off-highway commercial vehicles. The
company claims that it performed extensive
testing of these units on several
types of electric motors, demonstrating
improvements of up to 38% on peak
torque and power and a 3% efficiency
improvement for the drive system
(motor plus inverter). The net result is
reportedly an increase of up to 14% in
vehicle range. The company also touted
its latest generation of power distribution
modules, which it claims are designed
to enable the safe and efficient
electrification of on- and off-highway
vehicles while prolonging and maintaining
battery life.

Fuse demonstrator board
Microchip Technology (Chandler,
Arizona) announced its E-Fuse demonstrator
board that is available in six variants
for 400-800V battery systems and
with a current
rating up to
30 amps. The
company
states that it
can detect
and interrupt
fault currents
in microseconds,
100-500 times faster than traditional
mechanical approaches because
of its high-voltage solid-state design.
This reportedly reduces peak short-circuit
currents from tens of kilo-amps to
hundreds of amps, which can prevent a
fault event from resulting in a hard failure.
The E-Fuse demonstrator also features
a Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
communication interface, which enables
the configuration of the over-current trip
characteristics without the need to modify
hardware components.

Gate drivers
ROHM Semiconductor (Kyoto, Japan)
announced its fourth-generation SiC
MOSFETs and gate driver ICs. The company
states that its latest SiC MOSFETs
deliver improved short-circuit withstand
time as well as low ON-resistance,
which extends the cruising range of
electric vehicles by reducing power
consumption by 6% vs. IGBTs (as calculated
by the international standard
WLTC fuel efficiency test) when installed

Battery system
WAE Technologies (Grove, United
Kingdom) launched Elysia, the company's
battery intelligence system for
automotive, commercial and e-mobility
sectors. The system reportedly offers
embedded and cloud-based interfaces
that help battery system OEMs and
fleet owners turn battery system data
into actionable insights. WAE also
states that the system was designed to
forecast and extend battery life as well
as enhance safety and protect warranty/residual
values. The system uses a
suite of battery management algorithms
that according to WAE allow
OEMs to increase range, unlock faster
charging and maximize battery power.
WAE states that the system has delivered
an up-to-30% increase in battery
life and 10% increase in battery range in
some applications.
