Modine claims that the FC-SCP is purpose-built to meet unique needs and low conductivity requirements of commercial fuel-cell applications. The system reportedly maintains optimal temperature levels while minimizing power draw in fuel-cell propulsion systems. The system also features a predictive cooling process with an algorithm that predicts and minimizes temperature swings at the fuel-cell stack, which according to Modine extends vehicle range while maximizing longevity. Westport states that the HPDI fuel system enables existing IC engine architecture to operate with a variety of alternative fuels, including natural gas, renewable natural gas or bio-methane, syngas and hydrogen. Westport claims a 20% increase in power and torque when its hydrogen system is fitted to a typical diesel engine, and 5-10% better thermal efficiency.
