■ Design Guide for Surgical Robotics
2021 Product of the Year
Finalist
Allied Motion, Amherst, NY, has released a new guide to its custom motion control solutions for advanced medical
robotics applications. The guide highlights several motors, drives, and control systems, and the advantages of each for
specific applications. Specific application challenges and solutions featured include surgical robot arms and system positioning;
surgical console controls, adjustment, and positioning; robotic surgery end-effectors, instruments, and hand
tools; and patient table adjustment and positioning. The company's co-design and development process, ISO 13485 certified
production facilities, and global supply chain are also covered.

■ CT Software
Volume Graphics, Charlotte, NC, has released
a new version of its CT software, which captures
and analyzes data from industrial CT scans of
injected molded parts. Version 3.5 incorporates
information into the user's design tools to make changes that im -
prove product quality and performance. The software provides automated
design-geometry adjustment and repair tools that can be used
to correct and/or offset issues that stem from the manufacturing
process itself. The software fine-tunes surface fitting and provides
compensations that are within tolerances, enabling users to immediately
see whether design changes are compatible with mold making.

■ Electric Robot
Milacron, Cincinnati, OH, has added
a new robot to its all-electric portfolio.
The FANUC Roboshot ALPHA-SiB
series 55, 110, 140, 165 and 240-ton models are now available with
variations of injection capacity. Smaller injection capacity models
are available in multiple sizes for high-precision molding applications.
Special features have been developed for medical applications.
The series will include higher resolution and higher performance
PANEL iH control and new electrical standards.
Precision clamp force control for consistent venting and reduced
mold wear and 200 Operator ID with custom lock-out capability for
security control and tracking are now standard.

■ EMI Filter
A two-stage AC/DC EMI filter series
from Schaffner USA, Edison, NJ, features
excellent attenuation, easy and fast chassis
mounting, and multiple options for safety
and enhanced performance. The FN 2090 filters are designed for
noisy applications - including medical - that require highperformance.
Rated currents range from 1 to 30 A. Optional medical
versions (B type) and safety versions (A type) are available, as well as
optional overvoltage protection (Z type). FN 2090 A types provide
low capacitance to earth for safety-critical applications with a requirement
for low leakage currents.

■ Molding Material
BASF, Rhein, Germany, has expanded it
polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) portfolio so that
bottles can be manufactured by injection
stretch blow molding, extrusion blow molding,
and injection molding. All three processing methods benefit
from the customized properties of the high-temperature thermoplastic.
The material contains no harmful substances and offers
excellent strength, chemical resistance, and long-term hightemperature
stability up to 180 °C. During extrusion blow molding,
the plastic melt is extruded from top to bottom through a circular
die to form a tube-shaped parison. Internal pressure is then
used to inflate the parison within a mold, thus giving the part its
shape.

■ Bio-Based Compound
A new bio-based compound for injection
molding is available from from SABIC,
Houston, TX. LNP™ THERMOCOMP™ DC0041PE-7M1D145W
is designed to be a sustainable option for demanding applications
in healthcare and other key industries. The flame-retardant, carbon
fiber-reinforced compound has a reduced carbon and energy
footprint compared to its incumbent product, LNP THERMOCOMP
DC0041PE-7M1D145 compound - up to 17 percent when
compared to the fossil-based incumbent material. The compound
complies with REACH and RoHS.

Catalog
Qosina, Ronkonkoma, NY, has re -
leased the latest edition of its full-line
product catalog, available in both print
and digital formats. The 2022 product catalog features thousands of instock
components depicted in full-scale photos on a one-centimeter
grid to help design engineers visualize their next-generation medical
device. In addition, the company has added more than 1,000 components
to support the expansion of the company's portfolio into bioprocess
single-use systems. Services range from drawing board, prototype,
and regulatory filings to full-scale production.
