Fizeau interferometer. The Verifire Asphere+ was
made specifically for
resolution 3D metrology of aspheric surfaces. The
VFA+ leverages the benefits of Fizeau interferometry
through a unique combination of precise, high-resolution, fast,
and full aperture metrology for axisymmetric aspheres. This allows
faster convergence on deterministic polishing feedback for more efficient
surface generation as well as coverage of form error and midspatial
frequency surface characteristics with one instrument. The system

stages integrate a linear encoder into the single-axis linear stepper

■ Snapshot Sensor

snapshot sensor for inline inspection of geometry,
shapes, and surfaces. The surfaceCONTROL 3D
3500 works according to the principle of optical
triangulation based on fringe projection. Using a
matrix projector, a sequence of patterns is projected onto the surface
of the measuring object. The light of the patterns diffusely reflected
by the test object surface is recorded by two cameras. The threedimensional
surface of the test object is then calculated from the
recorded image sequence and the knowledge of the arrangement of
the two cameras to each other.

■ CMM Laser Sensor
A noncontact laser sensor for coordinate
measuring machines (CMMs) from Hexagon's
Manufacturing Intelligence, North Kingstown,
RI, offers manufacturers the ability to perform
dimensional measurements at comparable accuracy to tactile probing
and inspect almost any surface in a fraction of the time. The
HP-L-10.10 sensor uses the company's latest cross-platform laser
line scanning technology to offer repeatability and performance
compared to tactile measurements executed on the same CMM. It
can measure 600,000 individual points per second with a probing
form error of just 8 µm, rapidly capturing a complete highresolution
digital representation of a part that is valid for both surface
and detailed feature inspection.
