USB3 Cameras
Teledyne Imaging (Ottawa, Canada) announced
the release of its new 20-megapixel Lt Series USB3
cameras. Like all Lt Series models, these newest
cameras have a robust and compact enclosure, fully
locking USB3 connectors, and are built for rugged
24/7 use. Equipped with the Sony® IMX183 20 MP
CMOS sensor, with rolling shutter, and back illumination technology, these new
cameras perform in a wide variety of low-light and changing light conditions,
including aerial imaging, Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS), robotic inspection
solutions, and life sciences. The Lt Series cameras offer proven 32 and 64-bit operating
system compatibility for, Windows, Linux, Linux for embedded system platforms,
and single board computers (SBCs).

Image Sensor
OmniVision Technologies Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) announced
the OV50A image sensor, combining 50MP resolution, 1.0
micron pixel size, selective conversion gain and a 1/1.5 "
optical format with quad phase detection (QPD) autofocus
technology and on-chip remosaic. QPD enables 2×2
phase detection autofocus (PDAF) across the sensor's
entire image array, for 100% coverage. Unlike the microlens and
half-shield PDAF technologies, which only capture 3-6% of the phase
detection data, QPD uniquely captures 100% of this data for improved distance calculation,
faster autofocus and better low-light performance. Built on OmniVision's
PureCel® Plus-S stacked die technology, the OV50A integrates an on-chip, QPD
color filter array and hardware remosaic, which provides significantly improved autofocus
performance.

Image Capture and Review System
NorPix Inc. (Montreal, Canada) has developed a portable
high-speed recording system capable of capturing high-definition
images from multiple synchronized cameras. The system -
based on the company's StreamPix Recording Station - uses a
portable computing system housing a CXP frame grabber.
In a demonstration of its capabilities, the system captured
images from 2 synchronized high-definition (1920 × 1080,
or 1080p) cameras at over 1000 frames per second (fps).
Images from the cameras are transmitted via the CoaXPress interface standard, over
fiber optic cabling, at over 1000 fps each. This yields a data rate of over 8 Gbps. The
system records images from these two cameras without any loss of data and makes the
images available for operator playback on-demand.

Fiber-to-SiPh PIC Coupler
Optoscribe Ltd (Livingston, UK) is now sampling
OptoCplrLT™, its monolithic glass chip for low-loss
coupling to silicon photonics (SiPh) grating couplers.
Created using Optoscribe's proprietary high-speed
laser writing technique, OptoCplrLT™ is designed to
overcome fiber-to-SiPh photonic integrated circuit (PIC) coupling challenges to
enable high volume automated assembly and help drive down costs. Optoscribe's
OptoCplrLT™ uses low-loss light turning curved mirrors, which are formed in the
glass, to direct the light to or from the SiPh grating couplers. OptoCplrLT™ has a lowprofile
interface, ~1mm device height and ~1.5mm with cap, which allows compact
interface layouts that alleviate packaging constraints and helps address footprint
challenges. Optoscribe's solution is also compatible with industry-standard materials
and processes; for example, the glass chip has a coefficient of thermal expansion
matched to the silicon chip, helping to maximize performance.

Optical Measuring Instruments
Metrios (Santarcangelo di Romagna,
Italy) has restyled its optical measuring
instruments for the
shop floor. The large
touch screen monitor,
improving usability, is
still a dominant feature.
The load capacity
has been significantly
increased thanks to
a more robust lifting
stage. Available
in a
fixed tabletop version
(Metrios model) or with a mobile table
(Metrios CROSS model), it is equipped
with a high-resolution camera that provides
much clearer images than other
measuring machines. The vertical stroke
runs up to 80 mm in the Metrios CROSS
versions, while it remains over 100 mm
for the fixed tabletop versions. This feature
enables working with jigs and
clamping systems. The axes of the
Metrios CROSS table have retained their
linear motors.
