New Products
Structural Analysis and Design Software
Collier Aerospace Corp. (Newport News,
VA) has introduced its new HyperX® design
and analysis software for composite and
metallic structures used in aircraft, space
and automotive vehicles. The new software
offers a host of enhancements, including
streamlined workflows, an improved
graphics engine, enhanced computer-aided design (CAD) integration,
a redesigned relational database that can hold terabytes of data, and a
highly intuitive interface. The HyperX software provides stress and failure
analysis, sizing, reporting, and analysis traceability and visibility. The
advanced HyperX software has been built around composites. Using the
application, customers that are considering thermosets, thermoplastics,
resin infusion, out-of-autoclave, tape or fabric can see in seconds how
different materials will affect a given design.

Battery Management Systems
dSPACE (Wixom, MI) is launching a
modular system concept for testing battery
management systems. The new solution
will let users test modern battery systems
with overall voltages of up to 1,500V. Its
core component is a high-precision cell voltage emulation board that
ensures cell voltage generation with high precision, down to 300 µV. The
new, powerful BMS solution integrates seamlessly into the tried-and-tested
SCALEXIO technology and can be configured to meet the requirements of
each individual customer. When combined with the simulation software
ASM Electric Components, which provides a comprehensive library of battery
models, it can be used immediately. Its field of application ranges from
the development and validation of battery systems for electromobility to
energy storage systems for modern power grids.

Spacecraft Docking System
The SENER Group (Warsaw, Poland) has
developed the Hard Capture System (HCS) for
the IBDM (International Berthing and Docking
Mechanism), which is a docking mechanism
that allows both large and small spacecraft to
berth and dock. The purpose of the HCS is to
provide a rigid connection between structures in order to create a sealed
passage between two spacecraft. In addition, it can serve as a service connection
as well as a standard and emergency way to separate spacecraft.
In practice, this system will guarantee the safety of astronauts passing
between spacecraft or the safe transportation of supplies and materials,
for example from the spacecraft to the station. The IBDM mechanism was
designed in compliance with the International Docking System Standard
(IDSS) and is compatible with the docking adapter installed on the American
part of the International Space Station.

3U VPX GPU and FPGA-Based Board
Interface Concept (Quimper, France) has
announced the new IC-GRA-VPX3a 3U VPX
FPGA-based board and AMD-Radeon E9171-based
graphics processor module. The IC-GRA-VPX3a
graphics card features an AMD embedded Radeon™
E9171 Graphics Processor Unit (GPU) coupled to a programmable
Xilinx UltraScale™ FPGA. This combination
allows the IC- GRA-VPX3a to offer multiple solutions in terms of video
(ARINC818, STANAG 3350, 3G-SDI) capture and conversion configurations.
The AMD E9171 provides optimum performance-per-watt balance
for embedded systems with strict thermal constraints, enabling passive
cooling for many designs. In addition, its " Polaris " architecture brings a
range of improvements in the 14nm technology microchip compared to
previous GPU generations, with 1.2 TFLOPS computing capabilities, 4 GB
video memory, and up to 5 video outputs.

Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Inc. (CDE)
(Liberty, SC) announced that it has expanded
its signature series of 380LX and 381LX
aluminum electrolytic capacitors to include
voltages up to 600 VDC. The 380LX and
381LX snap-in series offer a published load
life of 3,000 hrs. when tested at rated voltage
and ripple current at rated temperature. The
380LX series is designed for 85 °C operation, while the 381LX series
meets the same load life at 105 °C. Newly added capacitance values
in the range of 150 µF to 330 µF are offered at 550 and 600 VDC in
the 380 LX series and 140 µF to 340 µF at 500, 550, and 600 VDC in
the 381LX series. These new ratings are offered with enhanced ripple
current capability, up to 3.7A at full-rated conditions.

Sixteenth-Brick DC-DC Converter
Flex Power Modules (San Jose, CA) has
added to its PKU-D series of low-profile sixteenth-brick
DC-DC converters with the
PKU3913D, a 100W rated part with an extended
input range down to 30V and regulated output
of 12V/8.3A. The intended application is for nominal
inputs of 48V or 54V with possible long cable lengths and
consequent voltage drops. In this case, the low input drop-out voltage
of the part is an advantage to guarantee extended operation, and the
input range is also compatible with PoE standard IEEE 802.3af (37-57
VDC). The PKU3913D is designed for high efficiency at lower input
voltages, peaking at over 95%. The parts feature pre-bias, monotonic
start-up capability, remote on/off and an MTBF of 13.88 M hours at
40°C ambient. Products are certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 for 2250
VDC input to output isolation.
