Inductive Transducer
H.G. Schaevitz LLC Alliance Sensors (Moorestown,
NJ) offers the LRS-18 spring-loaded LVIT (Linear Variable
Inductive Transducer) series. The contactless devices are designed
for dimension or position measuring applications in factory
automation and in various industrial and commercial applications where the
sensing element cannot be attached to the object being measured. Features include
ranges from 0.5 to 4.0 " inches, M18 × 1 threaded aluminum or stainless steel body with
mounting nuts, 0.25 " -diameter probe equipped with an AGD No. 9 contact tip, and axial cable
or a connector. Operating from a variety of DC voltages, the sensors are available with a choice
of four analog outputs and include proprietary SenSet™ field calibration feature.

Actuators
HEIDENHAIN Corp. (Schaumburg, IL) offers ETEL TUCANA ST and
AQUARIUS ST short stroke actuators for turret handlers in semiconductor manufacturing.
They are mechanically optimized with fully symmetrical and balanced
design for use with smaller nominal forces down to 0.5 N. Features include total
stroke of up to 10 mm, speeds up to 1 m/s, acceleration up to 40 G, and a move
and settle time of 2.8 mm within ±10 µm in 6.7 ms. The TUCANA ST has a peak
force of 68.4 N along with a continuous force of 12.1 N. The AQUARIUS ST has
a peak force of 214 N along with a continuous force of 31.4 N.

Linear/Rotary Actuators
Curtiss-Wright's Actuation Division (Chanhassen, MN) announced
the Exlar®
SA-R080 rotary and SA-L080 linear actuators
with integral controls. The actuators offer force, precision, energy
efficiency, and control while minimizing additional cabling
and external servo controls. The SA-L080 has continuous force
ratings up to 2330 lb-f (linear) and the SA-R080 is capable of torque up to 24.7l-in (rotary).
Features include 18-32 VDC input voltage, corrosion-resistant and sealed housing, stainless-steel
output shaft, integral power and control electronics, standard rear manual drive for
emergency operation, RS-232 and CANopen communication protocols, and SIL 3, Category
3 Safe Torque Off.

Compact Hexapod
Aerotech (Pittsburgh, PA) has released the HEX150-140HL, a miniature
hexapod six degree-of-freedom (DOF) positioning system that provides
precise translation in the X, Y and Z directions and rotations around each of
these axes. The HEX150-140HL delivers minimal incremental motion and
more linear travel - all within a compact yet stiff platform. The HEX150140HL
is easy to control and program with virtual pivot point adjustment.
The system is ideal for addressing space-constrained, multiple DOF applications that require
fine positioning resolution, including photonic device manipulation, alignment and packaging,
optics inspection and alignment, optical wafer probing, aerospace and satellite sensor testing,
and synchrotron and beamline sample manipulation.

Threaded Nuts
Nanotec (Feldkirche, Germany) offers radially pre-loaded
threaded nuts for external linear actuators with flange size 42 mm
(NEMA 17). The backlash-free nuts automatically readjust themselves
during operation and are available in combination with the
linear actuators of the LSA42 series. They come with ACME or
trapezoidal thread and facilitate the construction of space-saving
linear axes. Medical analysis devices, semiconductor inspection machines, or other devices in
which small loads need to be moved precisely are applications for linear actuators with backlash-free
threaded nuts.

Magswitch's (Lafayette, CO) e-series intelligent
magnetic grippers are not electromagnets
nor are they EPMs (electropermanent
magnets). Magswitch
E-Series units contain
proprietary switching
technology that enables
reduced energy
consumption, faster
actuation, intelligent
magnetic gripping,
part correct/part incorrect
feedback capabilities,
and two to
three times the holding
forces of any similarly sized electromagnet
or electropermanent magnet. Pole shoes that
shape the magnetic field are offered in standard
and custom configurations to ensure the
correct grip for the application. The intelligent
grippers are smaller than electromagnets,
which reduces the size of end of arm tools. With
less weight and size, designers are frequently
able to use a smaller robot, thus lowering capital
cost as well as reducing footprint.
