DC applications, each LOCC-Box-Net module
can be configured and controlled individually
or collectively as an entire set. With the IOLink
Gateway, LUTZE is adding a module
to its LOCC-Box portfolio that shares the
same compact housing width of 8.1 mm as
the LOCC-Box-Net modules themselves. The
networkable LOCC-Box modules and the IOLink
Gateway create an interconnected system
via jumper combs. The jumper combs connect
communication and 0V signals from one
LOCC-Box module to another. In addition to
the I/O Link interface, the gateway features
a USB port, through which all relevant status
information, such as trip diagnostics, and current
and voltage measurements, can be read
using the free LOCC-Pads software.

Lossless Compression Technology
Pleora Technologies (Ottawa, Canada) has unveiled its new patented
RapidPIX™ lossless compression technology that increases data throughput
by almost 70 percent while meeting the low latency and reliability demands
of machine vision and medical imaging applications. RapidPIX is
initially available on Pleora's new iPORT™ NTx-Mini-LC platform, which
provides a compression-enabled drop-in upgrade of the widely deployed NTX-Mini embedded
interface. With added compression, designers can deploy the iPORT NTx-Mini-LC to support low
latency transmission of GigE Vision compliant packets at more than 1.5 Gbps throughput rates
over existing 1 Gb Ethernet infrastructure. Manufacturers are designing the iPORT NTx-Mini-LC
embedded interface with RapidPIX compression into X-ray panels for medical and dental imaging,
contact image sensors (CIS), and industrial camera applications. While boosting bandwidth
performance without requiring a costly infrastructure upgrade, the lossless compression solution
also minimizes the amount of data transmitted over the network to reduce power consumption.

Pilot-Operated Relief Valve
Emerson (Marshalltown, IA) has launched the Fisher™ 63EGLP-16 Pilot
Operated Relief Valve for installation on pressurized bullet tanks used to
store liquid propane and anhydrous ammonia. This type of pressure relief
valve (PRV) is typically installed on tanks fabricated by original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs), that provide them to end users, engineering firms, or
contractor customers. With a pre-installed national pipe tapered (NPT) thread
standard 2-inch male hex nipple, this new product serves the need for a solution with a 2-inch connection
that provides the same benefit as traditional multi-ported valves, but with simplified installation
and maintenance. For this application, the PRV must be connected directly to the tank, with
no isolation valve between the tank and the PRV. This National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
58 code requirement presents challenges when testing the PRV while the tank is pressurized and in
operation. Operation is implemented with a dual pilot array, providing redundancy, and allowing
for removal of one pilot for testing while the other is operational.

encoders have made it simpler to configure wheel-equipped
encoders to meet users' exact requirements. Wheel-encoder assemblies

avoiding errors due to gear backlash or hysteresis that can arise when encoders are connected directly
to rollers or drives. POSITAL's measuring wheel-encoder combinations provide resolutions as fine as
0.1 mm/pulse for all available wheel sizes. POSITAL's IXARC incremental encoders - the heart of
the wheel/encoder set - are programmable. Resolution is defined by software parameters and can
be modified with no changes to mechanical components. Commonly used resolutions, such as 1000,
1024, or 2048 PPR are available, along with resolution as high as 16,384 PPR. Likewise, output drivers
can be set to either Push-Pull (HTL) or RS422 (TTL) to ensure compatibility with PLCs. Measuring
wheels are available with circumferences of 200 mm, 500 mm, or 12 inches. Four rim treatments are
available: knurled aluminum, smooth polyurethane, and two tread patterns for the polyurethane tire.
