The over-consumption of Sodium
Why Swap Your Salt?
coupled with the under-consumption
of Potassium contributes to
hypertension and cardiovascular
50% over DRV
56% under DRV
for a world that consumes too much sodium. "
Conventional salt is about 40% sodium and
60% chloride while potassium chloride consists
of 53% potassium and 47% chloride. Potassium
salt is sourced from some of the same places as
sodium salt, and it is used for the same functions.
Potassium's health benefits include regulating
blood pressure, balancing fluids and cellular
integrity, and maintaining normal heart rhythms.
Americans on average do not consume the recommended
4,700 mg per day of potassium.
Potassium salt serves the same functions as
common salt but does not have the harmful effects
of sodium. In fact, the average American
over consumes sodium by 50% and under consumes
potassium by 56% of the daily reference
value. The healthy balance of both salts helps
regulate blood pressure which is a way to fight
against heart disease.
" With more awareness around healthy, cleanlabel
choices, consumers are reading labels and
watching what they eat, and food manufacturers
are providing more foods which include potassium
salt. By removing some of the common salt
and replacing it with Salt for Life or Beyond Himalayan,
the functionality and great flavor remains,
and there is now a healthy balance of salts. " Mr.
