That customer service comes in the form of your website. For online shipping, your website’s usability substitutes for the face-to-face interaction with customers. If not, during your peak season, it ties up your phone line with customers saying, ‘I’m on the website trying to do this online and it’s not working.’” After every peak season, Haydel’s sits down with its programmers to ﬁgure out where the problems occurred and how to ﬁx them. “Anybody that wants to get into this business has to formulate, each year, money to put into their programming,” Haydel says. Innovative packaging Blackhound Bakery in New York City began shipping orders the day of its inception 18 years ago.
