150 millas al sur, María y Heliodoro Casillas,
dueños de Panadería María, explican que la
pandemia de COVID-19 "ha impactado a
muchos negocios en Fontana, pero no a nuestra
panadería. De hecho, tuvimos un aumento de
nuestras ventas de un 20% desde que comenzó
la pandemia."
En Carnitas Uruapan, Santoyo explica que
COVID-19 ha impactado su condado en gran
medida.
"Tenemos poco menos de 3,000 casos
confirmados, y un 65% de esos son latinos,"
explica. "Tuvimos que hacer cambios
inmediatos para mantener a nuestros empleados
y clientes a salvo. Con frecuencia desinfectamos
las superficies y proporcionamos máscaras a
nuestros empleados. Instalamos protectores de
plexiglás en toda la tienda. También colocamos
marcadores de distanciamiento social en el

piso para guiar a nuestros clientes. También
limitamos las cantidades de clientes en la tienda
al mismo tiempo."
Este negocio familiar contrató a más
empleados para mantenerse al día con la
demanda. Recompensaron los esfuerzos de los
empleados con un "bono de reconocimiento"
por todo lo que hacen y continúan haciendo
en estos tiempos sin precedentes. Además,
el negocio se mantiene actualizado según
las pautas y recomendaciones hechas por los
funcionarios de salud pública.
"Lamont es una comunidad resistente y
me gustaría pensar que nuestra panadería
contribuye positivamente a eso," explica
Santoyo. "Espero ver a la comunidad
continuar trabajando juntos para superar
los obstáculos. Estamos buscando expandir
posiblemente la panadería, por lo que el
año que viene esperamos un crecimiento y
la posibilidad de servir a nuestros clientes
con más de los panes que les encantan y

posiblemente también algunos artículos
nuevos."
En Panadería María, que opera dos
ubicaciones en Fontana, la panadería se vio
obligada a cambiar su forma de operar debido a
la pandemia. Siguiendo las pautas de los Centros
para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades
de EE.UU., la panadería se adaptó a las nuevas
reglas al espaciar a todos los clientes y proteger
a los empleados con máscaras y guantes, así
como una limpieza constante. Pero la crisis no
forzó el cambio en su producción.
"Siempre hemos trabajado duro para
producir pan de alta calidad utilizando los
mejores ingredientes y con la actual crisis de
salud no hay razón para hacer algo diferente,"
explica María Casillas. "Agradezco a Dios
que a nuestros clientes les gusten nuestros
productos y que no perdimos ninguno de
nuestros negocios. Lo que veo es que una vez
que salgamos de esta situación (COVID-19),
lo haremos aún mejor."
