they have to be sanitary," Mr. Hebel added. "Not only
should they not hold product, you don't want pieces
of product from one batch being held up in parts of a
gate and being dumped in a different product that is
run on a second shift."
Heat and Control was the first company to introduce
proportional gate feeding, which allows a manufacturer to proportion a certain percentage of the product off
at multiple locations, according to Mr. Svejkovsky. The
FastBack Revolution feed gate is a rotating cylindrical
gate that distributes proportional quantities of product to multiple locations without cutting off the main
product supply, which in turn helps to boost efficiency
of packaging equipment in a plant. The Revolution
gate adjusts to precisely deliver small or large quantities of product to weighers, bagmakers and seasoning
applicators. And unlike slide gates, the Revolution gate
has no pinch points to break fingers or product. Its
leak-proof construction also reduces the risk of cross
product contamination.

use on-machine flavoring systems at each scale bagger
position, according to Mr. Svejkovsky. Heat and Control's Revolution seasoning application system features
compact tumble drums integrated into a FastBack pan.
In addition to saving floor space and eliminating product
damaging drop points, the Revolution seasoning system
also helps to increase line efficiency and product diversification. The drum and seasoning feeder also can be
quickly removed by hand for cleaning offline. Changeover time is minimal, and the possibility of cross contamination and allergen problems is greatly reduced.
PPM Technologies offers gateless proportional feed
systems that enable the main line conveyors to swing
at the discharge to proportion product flow to the
scale feeders. "This revolutionary design eliminates
the gates, saving on maintenance and sanitation," Mr.
Doern said.
TNA also offers a gateless distribution system, in
which it uses the spacing of the servos to pull gaps between the two conveyors and discharges product between that gap, according to Mr. Loranzo. "There is
no mechanical device at all at the gate," so you don't
have any contamination of the product and product
