The Bakery Science Club, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, recently unveiled
the club's new signage. The sign will be strategically placed in front of Shellenberger
and Waters Hall for Wednesday bakery
sales. Money raised by the bakery sales assists club members with travel expenses to
the American Society of Baking's annual
conference in Chicago, IL, in March.

TIC Gums celebrates by giving back
TIC Gums, White Marsh, MD, is commemorating its 100-year mission of
customer and community service with
a series of public service projects. Each
month, employees have collected and donated gently used items or nonperishable
foods to a number of organizations in the
Harford County, MD, area.
"As part of our efforts for this special year, we formed an in-house action
committee to organize service projects,"

said Gayle Kelly-Peluso, organizational
development manager, TIC Gums. "Our
goal was to include a range of projects
near our main office as well as in other
communities in which our employees
work and visit."
Employees participated in renovating a homeless shelter and aiding the
Humane Society in Fallstone, MD. The
company also exercised for cancer research and the Leukemia & Lymphoma

Society at fund-raising run/walks.
"Although service has been a highlight
for 2009, given our anniversary, the response from our TIC Gums community
of employees has been so strong that we
expect to continue many projects into our
101st year," Ms. Kelly-Peluso said. "Especially in these times, when the sense of
community is more important than ever,
giving back is a priority that reaps many
rewards for all involved."
