Sabritas targets healthier snacking
Sabritas SRL de CV, the local subsidiary of PepsiCo, comfortably leads Mexico’s sweet and savory snacks sales with an overall category retail value share of some 60%. The company produces the top five selling brands in Mexico, with Sabritas chips, Ruffles chips, Cheetos extruded snacks and Doritos tortilla/corn chips all leading their respective product subcategories. Sabritas has not been idle in the face of mounting health consciousness. Its school lunchbox products include 130Cal baked extensions of its Sabritas potato chips. In addition, its Doritos and Ruffles snack brands have 30 to 35% less fat than traditional varieties, according to PepsiCo. The reducedcalorie Sabritas are made in the company’s facility in Mexico City, where it plans to introduce more healthy lines of salted snacks.
