Squeezable Sour Cream
Westby Cooperative Creamery, Westby, Wis., now offers allnatural
Squeezable Sour Cream in flexible pouches. Considerable
time and energy went into bringing this 14-oz pouch to life. To
start, the creamery purchased a filler for packaging the pouches,
and the plant had to undergo renovations to ensure production
could run smoothly. Dispensing sour cream in a pouch eliminates
the need for utensils, and that means less clean-up for consumers.
Savory cream cheese spreads
Kraft Heinz is growing its Philadelphia Whipped Cream Cheese
Spread line with savory flavors, including Buffalo, chive, garlic and
herb and roasted red pepper. They join original and mixed berry.
The whipped cream cheese has a light and fluffy texture perfect
for spreading on bagels and dipping right out of the container for
a snack. The spread comes in 7.5-oz tubs.
Sweet clotted cream
Global dairy group Parmalat has rolled out an innovative cream
spread set to carve out a new category in the Hispanic US dairy
market. New Nata Crema para Desayuno (Nata Breakfast Cream)
is a naturally sweet clotted cream made with real California whole
milk. Popular in Mexico and Latin America, the spread often is
used on toast topped with honey or jam. It is produced by Karoun
Dairies, which was acquired by Lactalis Group in 2017. Lactalis is
Parmalat's parent company.
Cultured Sour Cream
When the culinary team at Vermont Creamery, Websterville, Vt.,
decided to enter the sour cream category, it knew its product
had to be like nothing else in the marketplace. They developed
Cultured Sour Cream, which comes in two flavors (cilantro lime
and fire roasted onion and chive), as well as a crème-style classic.
" Our cultured sour cream reinvents a beloved staple into a more
luxurious offering, setting the new high bar for a rich and velvety
sour cream experience, " said Adeline Druart, president. " It has
22% milkfat - as compared to 18% in regular sour cream - and is
made with the same blend of cultures as our award-winning crème
fraîche. "
Mexican Style Sour Cream
Minneapolis-based Kemps now offers Mexican Style Sour Cream.
The company starts with its traditional sour cream, which is
simply cultured cream, and then through creative use of tapioca
starch and tara gum, produces a product that can be poured or
drizzled as a topping. It is thinner than sour cream, yet thicker than
authentic crème. It's not flavored or spicy.
