Dairy Products
Dry dairy product prices were uneven last week with some firming but others still weak. Cheese prices were mostly higher, but butter prices declined. Nonfat dry milk prices were unchanged at the bottom of price ranges but slightly lower at the top as the market remained weak. Demand for low-heat and medium-heat generally was weak and mostly for immediate needs only. Inventories were mixed. High-heat demand appeared to have peaked seasonally. But prices of some other dry products firmed. Lactose prices advanced 3c a lb, mostly due to higher November contract levels. Production eased and shipments were delayed in some cases. Prices of dry whey gained 1c a lb as production eased and demand remained strong. Inventories were tight. Spot offers were lacking. Prices of 34% whey protein concentrate and dry buttermilk were unchanged but firm amid mixed demand. Production of dry buttermilk increased. C.M.E. Group cheddar prices and most wholesale values were higher last week. Production was seasonally active. Domestic demand was strong, especially for mozzarella and holiday specialties.

C.M.E. Group butter prices declined. Churning was active, although cream supplies tightened as production of other cream-based holiday items increased. Most holiday butter orders were placed with shipments ongoing. Retail butter featuring was active amid strong sales. FBN

Egg Products
Egg product prices were steady to higher last week. Trading ranged from moderate to brisk but slowed from a week earlier in some cases. Good demand for dried and liquid products was noted. Dried whole eggs and whites advanced 5c a lb with yolks and blends unchanged. Frozen whole eggs and whites were 1c a lb higher with yolks steady. Liquid whites jumped 3c a lb, yolks gained 1c and whole eggs were unchanged. Breaking egg prices were unchanged. Supplies were readily available. FBN

Cocoa prices continued to trend Cocoa powder
lower. Some sales of black powder for next year were noted below recent quotes, but sales overall for 2012 were slow, and spot demand was mostly lacking as sales typically slow in the final quarter. Powder prices have declined 10c a lb during the past two weeks with natural down 20c since early September. Heavy cocoa butter supplies remained problematic with one report putting stocks at 15% of annual global production. Cocoa powder demand was sporadic but was much better than butter demand overall. New York cocoa bean futures prices were bantered about by outside market influences last week with little new fundamental news to move prices. FBN
