Sara Lee steadily ﬁlling out organizational structure
DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. — Sara Lee Corp. recently unveiled several additional appointments to “CoffeeCo” and its other spin-off company, “MeatCo,” after earlier announcing that Michiel Herkemij and Michel M.G. Cup have been named chief executive ofﬁcer and chief ﬁnancial ofﬁcer, respectively, of “CoffeeCo” once it is spun off from Sara Lee Corp. in the ﬁrst half of calendar 2012. Other new hires at CoffeeCo include naming Ingrid Baron as chief marketing ofﬁcer, Rogier Rijnja as human resource manager and Onno Van Klinken as general counsel. Ms. Baron was most recently working for IDEO, a design agency, where she managed the company’s London ofﬁce. Harm Jan van Pelt and Marleen Vaesen were promoted to retail management positions for Western Europe and Rest of World, respectively. Nick Snow, currently senior vice-president of Sara Lee International Food Service, will handle out-of-home strategy for CoffeeCo, while Coen Terlingen, senior vice-president of operations, will be in charge of supply chain issues. Sara Lee has yet to ﬁll the c.e.o. post for what will become MeatCo, but it has named Monty Pooley as president and chief marketing ofﬁcer, positions he has held at Sara Lee North America since this past July. Earlier he was president of Sara Lee North America Retail and chief customer ofﬁcer for Sara Lee Food and Beverage. Before joining Sara Lee he was vice-president of customer teams at H.J. Heinz Co. He also has held various roles at Procter & Gamble Co. Also at MeatCo, Maria Henry has been hired as chief ﬁnancial ofﬁcer; Andy Callahan, currently president of Food Service at Sara Lee, has been named customer ofﬁcer; and Mary Beth DeNooyer will become chief human resources ofﬁcer. Thomas Hayes, president of Sara Lee North American Foodservice, will be in charge of supply chain at MeatCo, while Jon Harris will head communications. FBN

Food and beverage C.P.I. inches up 0.1% in October
WASHINGTON — The Consumer Price Index for food and beverages rose 0.1% in October, climbing to 230.8 from 230.5 in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the Department of Labor. The gain followed advances of 0.4% in September and 0.5% in August. The food index rose 0.1% in October after rising 0.4% in September. It was the smallest increase of the year for the index, as the fruits and vegetables index declined sharply. For the fourth consecutive month, ﬁve of the six major grocery store food groups increased during October, led by a 0.5% gain in meats, poultry, ﬁsh, and eggs. The index for meats, poultry, ﬁsh, and eggs was 227.4 in October, up from 226.3 in September. The gain followed advances of 0.4% in both September and August. Also advancing 0.5% during October was the index for nonalcoholic beverages. The index rose to 168.9 in October from 168 in September. The indexes for cereals and bakery products and for other food at home both rose 0.4% in October, while the index for dairy and related products increased 0.1%. A decline of 1.7% occurred in the index for fruits and vegetables, as the indexes for both fresh fruits and fresh vegetables both declined sharply. The index for fruits and vegetables had increased 0.9% in September and 0.6% in August. The overall Consumer Price Index fell 0.1% in October to 226.4 after climbing 0.3% in September and 0.4% in August. The index now has increased 3.5% over the past 12 months. The decline reﬂected a drop in the energy index for the ﬁrst time since June. FBN

ADM to build biodiesel plant in Canada
DECATUR, ILL. — Archer Daniels Midland Co. plans to build a 70-milliongallon biodiesel plant in Lloydminster, Alta., that will increase the company’s North American biodiesel production capacity by 50%. Construction should begin in the spring of 2012 and should be completed in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2013. The biodiesel plant will be adjacent to the company’s canola crushing facility in Lloydminster. “The same agricultural processing operations we use to transform canola into oil for food and meal for animal feed also provide ADM with the ability and scale to efficiently produce cleanerburning, renewable biodiesel,” said Mike Livergood, vice-president of global oleo chemicals for Decatur-based ADM. In March of this year ADM announced plans to double the canola seed receiving capability and storage capacity at the Lloydminster facility. FBN
