THE NEW LEADER IN BUN PACKAGING

BSI has recently made claims that they are the "NEW LEADER in BUN
PACKAGING" so we decided to find out for ourselves, is this the truth or just
another sales tag line. To start this research we need to look at who
previously held this title. The former title was held by the now defunct
Lenexa Kansas facility that used to solely build bun packaging equipment.
After their swift closure back in 2012, there was a void left in the marketplace and customers were starting to worry about how to keep their
existing machines running. This left the title open for the next great company to step up and except the challenge.
BSI, never wanting to leave customers without an option, decided to step up and fill this
void. To do that, BSI hired many of the former long time employees of this now closed location to prevent that
tribal knowledge, required to build great equipment, from being lost forever.
This newly formed team of BSI's set out to do two things. Start supplying
high quality replacement parts to those with machines to keep running,
and to create their own modern day version of the automatic bun packaging equipment.
This process started in 2014 with the first replacement parts
starting to ship out the door in mid-summer. Over the next
several years, the number of parts offered began to grow to a
list of almost 20,000 part numbers just for bun equipment
alone. As this demand grew, BSI built out their stock room to
help keep the frequently ordered items in stock. BSI had to
expand their parts room two times over the last five years to
account for the space that this extra couple million dollars in
inventory takes up. As this parts business grew into its own
thriving division, BSI never lost site of their other goal which was
to build their own modern version of this automatic bun bagger.
BSI took its first order for two new bun bagger lines in 2015 and started its journey into bun packaging. When these first
two orders were taken, BSI had said that if they could sell one to two bun baggers a year they would consider it a success.
After the first two lines were installed in 2016, BSI took small steps forward in advancing the technology and user friendliness
of each subsequent machine. However, little did BSI know that in just three short years, four factory expansions, and 69 bun
baggers later, they would become the 1HZ:RUOG/HDGHULQ%XQ3DFNDJLQJ.
In speaking with Justin Atkins, Director of Sales for BSI, about their new found
success in bun bagging, he stated, "Credit for our success is always going to be owed to
our great team of 120+ people, but what kept us from falling flat on our face
during this tremendous period of growth was our use of baby steps.
We made incremental improvements to the equipment based on trial
and error and customer feedback."
