front linenews HEADLINES IN BAKERY & DELI & RETAIL Dierbergs Plans Innovative Store HBD Construction is putting the super in supermarket as they build the first area grocery store with an underground parking garage. HBD and innovative grocery giant Dierbergs have teamed up to build a free-standing 80,000-sq-ft store on approximately 6.5 acres. The new store, located in Des Peres, MO, off Manchester Road, will have the distinction of being the first St. Louis area supermarket to offer covered parking, with 42% of its parking spaces planned for a brightly-lit lower level garage. The construction completion date is estimated to be July 31, 2012. “This Des Peres location is going to be the finest, most revolutionary store among their 24 locations.” says Mike Perry, president of HBD Construction Co. The Des Peres Dierbergs will be the chain’s first multi-level store and will have a 5,000-sq-ft mezzanine which will give customers an opportunity to enjoy many offerings of freshly prepared foods. The store will also boast the largest Dierbergs produce department to date, a remote drivethrough pharmacy in the covered parking area, a new Dierbergs Florist & Gifts, an extensive Whole Life Foods section, a larger seafood department and a multitude of in-store foodeducation opportunities. DCI Expands Cheese Offerings DCI Cheese Company has expanded product offerings for its Nikos and Landana brands and the addition of select cheeses from the Alexis de Portneuf and DuVillage 1860 lines. All of the new items are available exclusively through DCI and can be found in select retailers nationwide. Nikos fetas are made in Wisconsin by Certified Master Cheesemakers and feature a soft and crumbly texture and a pleasantly mild, slightly tangy flavor. Nikos Crumbled Fat Free Feta, available in a 6 ounce cup, allows health-conscious consumers to enjoy traditional, full-flavored feta without the guilt. Nikos Feta in Brine, available in a 4 pound pail, extends the brand’s Mediterranean-styled offerings to discerning foodservice customers. Landana Red Pesto is a Dutch gouda-styled cheese crafted with tomatoes, oregano and garlic to yield a robust flavor profile. This colorful, eye-catching cheese is available in 7 ounce wedges in re-sealable parchment bags. Alexis de Portneuf Bleubry marries the best attributes of soft and blue cheeses to produce a delightfully temperate flavor that is not too salty and a delicately smooth and creamy texture.
