Fresh & Easy 14 Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market introduced more than 60 delicious new baked goods and desserts in 2012, including new varieties of bagels, scones, cookies, breads, pies, cupcakes and pastries. The new products include several seasonal flavored, gluten-free and organic options, and like all fresh&easy brand products, they contain no artificial colors or flavors, high-fructose corn syrup or added trans-fats. More than 15 of the new bakery items are specially designed just for the fall season; some of the seasonal highlights that are baked fresh daily instore include: Maple Pecan Braid, Cinnamon Apple Muffins, Cranberry Walnut Loaf and Pumpkin Scones with vanilla icing. Fresh & Easy has improved its line of traditional desserts and introduced some new, unique and innovative items, including The Devilish Dozen Red Velvet Mini Cupcakes, Bonkers Berry Pie and more. Josiah Huelle, Fresh & Easy’s Dessert Development Chef, created the new dessert items. Chef Josiah joined the Fresh & Easy team in January, bringing years of experience as a pastry chef for a variety of resorts including St. Regis Monarch Beach and St. Regis Princeville. This year, Downey took a seat as president of the Retail Bakers of America — only the second time in the association’s history that a supermarket executive has received this distinction. During his time as president, Downey has worked to strengthen the ties between supermarket bakeries and retail bakeries. In fact, Kings was named InStore Buyer’s 2010 instore bakery of the year, in part because of the relationships that Downey has forged with retailers in the New York and New Jersey areas. In February, Kings, an already high-end retailer, celebrated a full-scale upgrade on the brand, both online and instore. The upgrade included expansion of existing stores, new store acquisitions and a complete upgrade on the website, The rebranding further celebrates the company’s commitment to a love of food — good food — and to “foodie” customers who share in that love. Kings has also increased its web presence through social media, including promotions such as a fall Facebook contest where customers could “like” the Kings Facebook fan page for a chance to win a basket full of Kings’ favorite seasonal items.
