Steve Massey has a
passion for getting
the job done right. As
technical services manager
for Lesaffre Yeast Corp.,
he travels the country to
troubleshoot production
issues that a wide range of
bakers may encounter. "I get
to go in and out of bakeries
all over the country and
troubleshoot any issues they
are having with products,"
he says. A typical day for
Massey involves helping a
baker improve quality or find
an answer to correct an ongoing issue they are having -
and living on an airplane. "If
life was any better," he says, "I
couldn't stand it!"

As busy as the job is, he still
finds time for all his favorite
activities, including boating,
ATV riding, hunting, fishing
and camping. And he loves
his dog, Reba, a Shiba/Pug
cross.

In all his years in the baking
industry, he has learned
a lot, such as the importance
of sharing information with
other bakers, as well as how
to make killer dinner rolls for
family functions.

As a graduate of the
American Institute of Baking
in Manhattan, Kansas, Massey
has played an integral role on
the Lesaffre technical team
since 2012. Overall, he has
been in bakery production
since 1975. Prior to Lesaffre,
at one of the bakeries where
he worked, Massey helped
grow production and improve
quality by 400%. That's one
of his proudest moments.

He thoroughly enjoys the
fact "that things change in
a bakery on a day-to-day
basis. What works today
may not work tomorrow,"
he says. "My favorite thing
about being a baker is to
share my knowledge with
other bakers, as well as learn
from other bakers. There are
always different ideas and
ways of achieving the same
result."
