Corp. last week announced that Jeff
Stratton has been promoted to executive vice-president and chief restaurant
ofﬁcer of McDonald's USA.
Most recently, he was senior vice-president and chief restaurant ofﬁcer for McDonald's USA, where he was responsible
for U.S. supply chain management, training, restaurant development, information
technology and national operations for
McDonald's 13,600 U.S. restaurants.
During his 30-year career, Mr. Stratton
has managed various aspects of restaurant operations. He joined the company

in 1973 as a restaurant crew employe
and was promoted to assistant restaurant manager in 1974 and restaurant
manager in 1976.
He managed operations for McDonald's Detroit region until 1987, at which
point he was promoted to staff director
in operations and menu management.
He later was named home ofﬁce director
of menu management in 1991.
In 1998, Mr. Stratton was named regional vice-president for McDonald's
Denver region, and was promoted to
president of McDonald's West division

Harold Price, donut company founder
and philanthropist, dies at 95
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. - Harold
Price, an entrepreneur and philanthropist who helped popularize the popsicle
and founded a successful donut company, died Jan. 27 after a series of strokes.
He was 95 years old.
After graduating from the Wharton
School at the University of Pennsylvania
in 1928 with a bachelor's degree in economics, Mr. Price went to work for his
father, Louis Price, who had co-founded
Joe Lowe Corp., a bakery and ice cream
supply business. Joe Lowe popularized
the popsicle after buying the rights to the
frozen dessert in 1925 from its inventor,
Frank Epperson of San Francisco.
In 1938, Mr. Price formed a subsidiary,
Cottage Donuts, which operated 19
plants nationwide and at its peak sold an
average of 100,000 dozen donuts a day.
During World War II, Mr. Price was a
member of the War Productions Board
in Washington and administered a national program for the conservation of
honey.
In 1965, he was responsible for negoti-

ating a merger with Consolidated Foods
Corp. and ran the Joe Lowe division
for several years before Consolidated
became Sara Lee Corp. He later became
a consultant and retained a sizable stock
position with Sara Lee.
After his retirement in the late 1960s,
Mr. Price funded numerous entrepreneurial programs at universities, including New York University, the University
of California, Los Angeles, and his alma
mater, the Wharton School.
In 1979, he created the Price Institute
for Entrepreneurial Studies, a not-forproﬁt corporation dedicated to enhancing the recognition and development of
entrepreneurialship.
Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Pauline; a daughter, two granddaughters
and ﬁve great-grandsons.

CHICAGO - The board of directors
of Sara Lee Corp. promoted four individuals to new positions within the
company.
Sara Lee promoted Ellen L. Turner,
currently president of the retail division of Sara Lee Foods, to a corporate
vice-president. Ms. Turner joined the
company in June 2002 and has worked
as president of breakfast of Sara Lee
Foods.
Diana S. Ferguson, treasurer, was promoted to senior vice-president, corporate
development. Ms. Ferguson joined Sara

Lee in 2001 as vice-president and treasurer.
Lois M. Huggins was promoted to
senior vice-president, global human
resources. In addition, she is responsible for employe communications,
community relations and the Sara Lee
Foundation.
Ms. Huggins joined Sara Lee in 1987.
Vincent H.A.M. Janssen was named
senior vice-president. Previously, he was
president of Sara Lee's Household and
Body Care division and a member of the
Sara Lee/DE board of management.
Mr. Janssen joined Sara Lee in 1992. MBN
