Viterra to grow in U.S. milling with
21st Century Grain Processing
CALGARY, ALTA. - Viterra Inc. has
signed an agreement to acquire Kansas City-based 21st Century Grain
Processing for $90.5 million. 21st
Century Grain operates an oat mill in
South Sioux City, Neb., and a wheat
mill near Amarillo, Texas.

agreement with 21st Century Grain
Processing, which has established an
excellent reputation in the industry
for providing healthy, high quality,
grain-based food ingredients," said
Karl Gerrand, senior vice-president of
processing for Viterra. "Its operational
focus aligns well with our processing
segment, creating opportunities to
better serve our customers by optimizing our logistics and realizing production efficiencies. Further, it will position our company to better compete in
this industry and meet the continued

growth in demand for healthy food
products in North America."
Lynn Rundle, chief executive officer of 21st Century Grain Processing,
said the transaction is expected to position the company well as it continues its growth over the
long term.
The South Sioux City
oat mill has capacity to
process up to 295 tonnes
of oat products per day. In addition to
oats, the facility manufactures coated
grains and clusters used in foods such
as granola bars, ready-to-eat breakfast
cereals and snack foods.
The Amarillo wheat flour mill has
daily milling capacity of 5,000 cwts
of flour and grain storage capacity of
3 million bus. The mill also produces
whole wheat, bakery and tortilla flour.

Northern Railway
MAUMEE, OHIO - The Andersons, Inc.
has made a minority investment in the
Iowa Northern Railway Co. (I.A.N.R.),
which operates a 163-mile short-line railroad that runs diagonally through Iowa
from northwest to southeast from Manly
to Cedar Rapids and a branch line from
Waterloo to Oelwein. The company has
a fleet of 21 locomotives and 500 railcars,

and it primarily serves agribusiness customers. In addition, I.A.N.R. develops logistics terminals designed to aid the transloading of various products, including
ethanol and wind turbine components.
Financial terms were not disclosed.

In May, the company acquired Dakota
Growers Pasta Co., strengthening its

pasta market. Earlier, the company
said it would invest $20 million to $25
million as part of a joint venture with
Guangxi Beibu Gulf International
Port Group Co. Ltd. to build a canola
crushing facility in the province of
Guangxi, South China, at the port of

Heartland Co-op to acquire
four grain facilities in Iowa
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA - Heartland
Co-op has agreed to acquire the operating assets of four grain facilities owned
by Keith Roorda. Heartland Co-op on
July 1 will begin operating the facilities
- Newton Feed Center Elevator, Monroe
Feed Center, Prairie City Feed Center Elevator and Runnells Grain Elevator.
"We look forward to continuing the
excellent service provided by the team
currently operating these facilities, and
we intend to utilize this team to operate these facilities for us," said Larry
Petersen, chief executive officer of
Heartland Co-op.
Formed in 1987, Heartland Co-op is
