Joel Hoffa to president of I.A.O.M.; other ofﬁcers elected
NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. — The International Association
of Operative Millers (I.A.O.M.) elected a new president,
vice-president and treasurer during its annual conference
held April 29 to May 3 in Niagara Falls.
Joel Hoffa, corporate milling engineer at The Mennel
Milling Co., Fostoria, Ohio, was elected the 109th president
of the I.A.O.M.; Damon Sidles, plant manager at Miller
Milling Co., Fresno, Calif., was elected vice-president; and
Roy Loepp, senior project engineer with Seaboard Overseas
and Trading Group, Merriam, Kas., was elected treasurer.
Mr. Hoffa has been an active member of the I.A.O.M.
since 1981. He was treasurer of the association from 201112; and vice-president from 2012-13, during which time he
was also president of the I.M.E.F.
Mr. Hoffa joined ADM Milling Co. in 1975, and worked at
the Atkinson Mill in Minneapolis until 1978, when he left to
pursue a degree in milling science-operations at Kansas State
University. Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree in milling science in 1980, he took a job at The Pillsbury Co. mill in
Ogden, Utah, and stayed with the company until 1992, moving from plants in Los Angeles, Enid, Okla., and St. Louis. He
remained in St. Louis with ADM Milling until 1993, when he
moved to Wichita, Kas., with Cereal Food Processors, Inc., as
plant superintendent. In 1995, Mr. Hoffa joined The Mennel
Milling Co. as plant manager in Fostoria. In 2008, he was promoted to the corporate position of milling engineer.

from 2014-15. He has been an active member of the I.A.O.M.
since 1993.
While serving as I.A.O.M. vice-president, he will serve
as president of the I.M.E.F. He has served as a trustee of the
foundation since it was established in 2003.
Mr. Sidles graduated from K.S.U. in 1991 with a degree in
milling science and management. He joined ConAgra Mills
and moved with the company from plants in Decatur, Ala.;
Wabasha, Minn.; Alton, Ill.; Blackwell, Okla.; and Oakland,
Calif. In 1997, he started working at Miller Milling in Fresno, and took over as the facility’s plant manager in 2000.
Mr. Loepp is in line to serve as the association’s president from 2015-16. He has been an active member of the
I.A.O.M. since 1990.
While serving as I.A.O.M. treasurer, Mr. Loepp also will
be vice-president of the I.M.E.F.
Mr. Loepp graduated from K.S.U. in 1989 with a degree
in milling science and management. He joined Cargill as
a production manager, and worked with the company in
plants in Topeka, Kas., and Springfield, Ill. In 1995, he took
a milling technologist position at Seaboard Corp. in Merriam. In 2001, he was promoted to his current position. MBN

highlight I.A.O.M. showcase
NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. — The International Association
of Operative Millers Expo featured 125 exhibit booths with
suppliers from all over the world showcasing products and
services from April 29 to May 3 in Niagara Falls.
The presentations for the “Product Showcase” portion of
the expo were made in the individual booths of the presenting companies.
• Foss gave a demonstration on its ProFoss In-Line Grain
and Flour Analyzer, which is used to optimize and monitor the wheat blending process. The instrument detects real
time and display process changes to the moisture and protein of wheat. Millers may use the information to ensure
consistent wheat blends time after time.
• The Bühler team made a presentation on its Particulus
MYTA, which combines laser diffraction and image processing in one system. The Particulus MYTA is suitable for
continuous granulation measurement ranging from 10 to
5,000 microns.
• Premier Tech Chronos debuted its new APR-1600 Robotic Palletizer, a hybrid which includes features of a conventional palletizer while using a robot. It is designed to
handle 25- to 110-lb bags.
• vibronet’s Sylvia Graf presented information on her
company’s remodeled cereal dampener, which was granted a new patent in 2012. The machine treats grain up to 40
tph at a reduced height. The automatic water dosage and
throughput control system are built in at no extra space.
Clean design and optimized vibration forced allow up to
12% water addition in one pass. The Siemens touch control
allows easy inspection and maintenance together with Ethernet and profibus connectivity.
• The Cimbria/Bratney team gave a demonstration on its
Moduflex, which is a “dust proof” means of loading grain,
flour or midds into any type of flatbed truck, tanker truck or
vessel. The Moduflex is built with a modular construction
for easy component replacement and is available in numerous sizes to handle a wide range of capacity requirements. MBN
