With leadership transition pending,
changes afoot for Bunge Brazil
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Several changes are in store for the Brazilian operations of White Plains-based Bunge Ltd.
Pedro Parente, president and chief
executive officer of Bunge Brazil, announced his retirement,
effective June 30. Mr. Parente, 60, has led Bunge's
Brazilian operations since
joining the company in January 2010.
"Pedro has made a tremendous,
positive impact on Bunge Brazil,"
said Soren Schroder, c.e.o. of Bunge
Ltd. "He conducted a comprehensive restructuring of our local operations, built a high-performance

leadership team and increased, every
year, the combined results of our core
agribusiness and food and ingredients
businesses. He oversaw the integration of the Moema sugarcane mills into
Bunge and the divestiture of our Brazilian
fertilizer businesses. Pedro leaves us a strong,
streamlined Bunge Brazil, and we wish
him all the best."
Bunge expects to name a successor
to Mr. Parente in the coming months.

Growing breakfast north of the border
CHICAGO - The opportunity to
capitalize on the breakfast category
in Canada exists, but food service operators need to focus on convenience,
value, health and variety if they hope
to do so, according to research from
Technomic, Inc.
According to Technomic's "Canadian Breakfast Consumer Trend Report," most Canadian consumers eat
breakfast on a regular basis, with 82%
saying they eat breakfast at least sometimes and 32% saying they always eat
breakfast.
But even with the regularity in
which Canadian consumers eat breakfast, many people indicated there are
times they skip breakfast. Forty-three
per cent said they skip breakfast at
least once a week.
"There are opportunities to increase breakfast traffic in each restaurant segment," said Darren
Tristano, executive vice-president of
Technomic, Inc. "But in order to do
so, operators must highlight their
strengths. Limited-service breakfast
customers tell us that value menus,
breakfast sandwiches and portability
are important to them, while overall
menu variety, all-day breakfast items
and kids' breakfast options are particularly important to full-service
breakfast consumers. Zeroing in on
the core needs of your breakfast customer is integral to building the daypart's success."
Among Technomic's findings were:
* 52% of consumers who eat breakfast at home do so to save money.
* 31% said it is too expensive to purchase breakfast from limited-service

purchase breakfast from full-service
restaurants during the week.

"In conducting all of its investments,
the company continually analyzes the
best strategies, considers market conditions as well as the economic factors
that influence the business environment," Bunge said. "Some of these factors have impacted the soybean crushing activities in our country, favoring
the sale of grain at the expense of processing products such as oil and meal."
Bunge said the decision to close the
plant will not affect the other activities
of the company in Passo Fundo. It will
continue to operate its other facilities
in the city, including a grain storage
silo and commercial, administrative
and logistic activities. In addition, the
company has said it may sell its sugar
